| The Collusion of Politics and the Media in Canada The vital development of Canadian society is being systematically compromised by a carefully orchestrated propaganda efforts under the control and direction of owners of the mass-media in Canada, in collusion with their political associates. A competitive mass-media environment in Canada would endeavour to constructively support the development of a critically aware and informed public. Such a public is the basis of a vibrant and robust democracy, where citizens can make choices that can positively impact on the development of their society. The fraternal ownership structure of the media in Canada and their political associates harbour a politically incestuous working relationship designed to safeguard against scrutiny concerning the actions, and the ill-effects of their decision-making processes on constituencies and their environment. The political Establishment in Canada which includes Liberal and Conservative Party interests that supports dysfunctional policies which include "Free Trade", a policies which are destroying our vital environment, is being essentially propped up by a very well organized and mutually self-serving "Old Boys Network". This apparent "Old Boys Network" protects each member of that white male clique other from "needless" embarrassment and exposure to the public. As a result the Canadian public might be well advised to be careful about accepting on face value, the integrity of information being received from media, about critical issues of current concern such as, the alleged health of the Canadian economy. The elites who own Canada's television and radio stations, and newspapers, have turned news coverage in Canada into an uninspired mélange of "fluff" journalism, and pabulum for the masses, focused strategically well away from areas that might detract from their delicate portfolio of commercial "investments". Like an infomercial, most television, radio, and print news in Canada is being packaged primarily as a complement to the commercials (and display advertising in newspapers) that are sold by these business enterprises. A handful of associated elites in Canada, have taken over daily newspapers in Canada, converting them into nicely laid out and well-financed supplementary propaganda instruments of and for the greed-driven Canadian corporate culture. News and information gathering process of the mass-media in Canada is not oriented toward the development of a more critically informed people-driven society. Instead it can be described as being driven toward the cynical and regimented mass-manipulation of the public, so as to support and perpetuate the consolidation of a capitalistocracy in Canada, under the greed driven ethos of so-called "Free Trade" in the context of Corporate Globalization. The mass-media in Canada seeks to corral like sheep, constituencies of public opinion, consistent with the vested interests who own them. Just as the owners of the mass-media in Canada sought to ensure the electoral triumph of Establishmentarian interests. Despite the rhetoric of parliamentary democracy, the Canadian system functions essentially as a relatively inter-changeable consortium of a functioning One-Party state. All political parties in Canada (including the New Democratic Party backers of Paul Martin's neo-liberal government) are being controlled under the same rubric of concentrated power, that controls the writing and reporting of the mass-media in Canada. The so-called separatist option for the people of Québec, is basically an attempt by a functioning racialist part of the Establishment in Canada to consolidate power, not in behalf of the people of Quebec, but in behalf of largely white male francophone elites within that province. The Bloc Quebecois, has demonstrated itself to be as cynical and elitist as the rest of Canada's "banana republic" political party options. This was further exposed by Bloc Quebecois collusion with the ultra right-wing Conservative Party in late Spring 2005, which supports the American take-over of Canada, including Quebec. Owners of the Canadian media, who are also patrons of political power in Canada view the "unchecked" operation of democracy via competitive news and information gathering process, as a threat. The political philosophy of "Peace, Order, and Good Government" of owners of the mass-media in Canada, is the basis of the erosion of the creative development potentials, of a dynamic multi-cultural Canadian society. What is the historical background, and current dynamics of power that operates in Canada to perpetuate a status quo? How can this status quo of power, that endeavours to consolidate itself through an "information cartel" be alleviated to support the vital development of Canadian society? These are areas of critical inquiry for the books entitled Capitalism is Not Democracy, 2005, National Identity in Canada and Cosmopolitan Community, ISBN: 1894934121, 2003, 2004 that can be acquired from Agora Book Café with adonation pledge. ![]() |
