Calgary based bluessmyth makes their way east to Toronto for the first time. Coming off their first successful CD and tour, the group has just released their second, self-titled CD called "bluessmyth." It is a heavy, raw and powerful recording from the Canadian blues trio. The name of both the CD, and of the group, combines blues and smith (or smyth), for the symbolic forging of solid blues music with heavy, metallic overtones, and hidden gospel & soul influences.

Chris says," This CD is heavier, and in some ways more thoughtful, than our first CD "30 Pieces Of Silver". On "bluessmyth", the songs speak about permanent and universal things everyone goes through, like the choice between good and evil, the finding of your own place in this world, and of life and death. On this CD we wanted to tell stories."

Bluessmyth

The rhythmic foundation of bluessmyth is laid down by Jason Yaholkoski's deep, definitive bass playing, combined with Calvin Becker's bombastic, hammerhead drumming, and then is finished off with Chris Yaholkoski's fire and brimstone guitar lines.

The vocals of the group are extraordinarily compelling. Chris's voice has the resonance of an old, life-soaked bluesman. The background vocals are full of sorrow, and of soul. Calvin sings in a soaring falsetto, while Jason's voice contributes a rich baritone. The result is a unique, textured sound that is both chilling and moving. Both live and in the studio, Chris's metallic, blues-drenched harmonica throw an edge into the mix. In the studio, Calvin adds sultry Hammond organ and piano to their recordings.

bluessmyth will be playing at The Black Swan on July 25 and at Healey's on July 26, 2006 to end their tour.
