Liberal Party launches Policy Platform consultations with Canadians Compiled by Peter Mackenzie
Ottawa - Liberal Party of Canada Leader Stéphane Dion has announced that a series of policy consultations with Canadians will begin in support of the Liberal Party of Canada's Platform and election readiness. Martha Hall Findlay was appointed Platform Outreach Chair by the Honourable Stéphane Dion on December 19, 2006. Working with Bob Rae and Scott Brison, Co-Chairs of Policy Platform Committee, and Gerard Kennedy as Chair of Election Readiness, Ms. Hall Findlay will be engaging Canadians in discussions focusing on the three pillars of economic prosperity, social justice and environmental sustainability. "I am very pleased that Martha has agreed to lead our cross-country consultations. During the leadership Martha displayed a genuine approach to renewal and a tremendous capacity to engage Canadians as she toured the country," said Mr. Dion. "This national tour will seek the input of Canadians from a broad cross-section of sectors. I look forward to building on the policy work undertaken by ridings across the country which culminated in resolutions passed at the recent Leadership and Biennial Convention, as well as on the work of the Party's Renewal Task Forces. This is an opportunity to build on our success, consulting and exchanging ideas with Canadians across the country on how best to achieve a more economically prosperous, socially just and environmentally sustainable Canada," Ms. Hall Findlay said. Ms. Hall Findlay will begin the Party's Platform Outreach tour in British Columbia. Meeting with members of the Liberal Party, with representatives of community and business organizations, with the Aboriginal community and others, she will seek input on the Party's three pillar approach to policy. All of the stops on this tour will be advertised locally. The Liberal Party's Web site will have many of the events posted to make Canadians aware of them. From British Columbia, current travel plans have Hall Findlay traveling next to Quebec, Nova Scotia, Alberta and Manitoba, with more to follow.
