Cell phone industry cheats Canadian users with new policy by Chris D.
Just wondering why the standard news networks are making such a big deal about being able to transfer your number when you will be forced to buy a new phone or enter into a new contract when you switch? Little did we know this when we bought two phones through Rogers last year. We are moving to Saskatchewan and Rogers does not cover the area we are going to. So we will have to switch carriers, no problem we booth have brand new Motorola model phones. This is when we found out our phones are useless on any network but Rogers. So we did not enter into a three-year contract, but a contract for life, as long as we want to use these phones. Just as if I had a Telus phone it would not be able to be hooked up with Rogers. So why would I care about keeping my number when I would have to purchase a new phone when I made the switch. I think like most people I assumed number portability also meant I could keep my current phone. So if you think you can finish your contract off then switch companies you will be out of luck. You will show up in their store complaining about your current carrier and they will be more than happy to sell you a new phone and package, oh but you can keep your old number, but not the phone!
