Author documents Stephen Harper's support for corporate take-over of Canada's healthcare system Compiled by John Stokes
Stephen Harper served as President of the far-right wing National Citizens' Coalition from 1997 to 2002. He wholeheartedly supported the efforts of that organization including those designed to undermine publicly funded healthcare. When he avoids talk of his plans on health care you can guess why. He has reiterated his opposition to publicly funded healthcare time and time again throughout his political career. It is logical to assume then that he will try to privatize healthcare once he has a majority government. There are no direct ties between the Conservative Party and the National Citizens' Coalition. With the former President of the National Citizens' Coalition as leader of the Conservative Party formal ties would be redundant.
