Canada's Environment Minister says preventing human extinction from Global Warming would be too costly by Traci Lawson
John Baird was picked by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to be the Environment Minister to replace the embattled Rona Ambrose. However, comments made by John Baird in the aftermath of some public relations money put into restoring Stanley Park in Vancouver, suggests that it is a return to "business as usual", on ignoring environmental issues. Mr. Baird's main new job as Minister, appears to be to create an Environmental Policy which does not interfere with the ability of the wealthy interests that donate to the Conservative Party, and to make commercial profits irrespective of social and environmental costs. John Baird's latest spin against affirming the Kyoto Protocol is that it is "too costly" and would cause a recession. Mr. Baird alleges for example that "275,000 Canadians would lose their jobs." However, Mr Baird, in the process of spreading his propaganda did not mention, for example, that a study last fall by Nicholas Stern, former chief economist of the Word Bank, said costs of combating Global Warming are manageable, and would be much less than the costs of taking no action. Mr. Baird and his far right Conservative colleagues are a "no action kind of party", that seek to "buy time" trying to manipulate Canadians with insincere rhetoric and propaganda. It is a great wonder why the Stephen Harper government has not thus far sought to spread messages that smoking does not really cause lung cancer, after all. I mean, Conservatives could say that the Government regulation against the tobacco industry just interferes with "the marketplace", just like trying to affirm the Kyoto Protocols interferes with the marketplace. Right? Big Businesses should be able to abuse the human rights of Canadians on health and environmental issues. Right? Perhaps the Conservatives hope to wait to spread that message, if they get their sought majority government, in which they can act with total impunity in behalf of their Big Business backers. Global Warming substantively unchecked, promises to lead to human extinction. This can be appreciated with only a basic critical understanding of science. Indeed, professional scientists have affirmed that the threat of such extinction as a result of continued government action on redressing Greenhouse emissions and other pollutants is real. Global Warming substantively unchecked will have a massive cascade effect on the ability of Earth to sustain human life from agriculture as a source of food, and oxygen producing micro-organisms in the oceans which will completely die off over a certain water temperature. The Stephen Harper Government is not stupid, and is aware of the catastrophic effect of Global Warming will have on Canadians and other people internationally. Therefore, Mr. Baird's claim that fighting Global Warming is "too costly", constitutes apparent wilful negligence to destroy Canada, along with the rest of the world, in behalf of the objectives of a hideous intelligence.
