New Conservative Party offends the honourable traditions of Canada's former Progressive Conservative Party by John Halonen
Tis easy to say you were a Progressive Conservative, when being so, represented your belief that Conservatism values were applied in the best interests of all Canadians. Today, the new "Conservative" direction is not the same, and could be said, not even to be similar. Last week, we had our laws changed to allow business interests of the elite and powerful have an easier road for the distribution of their products. What was done will make it easier to distribute goods while earning more profits, and even a slight possibility of reducing cost to consumers. What it did do also, was remove another reason why we are Canadian. Years of efforts to ensure that products or foods are provided with the best interests of all Canadians were destroyed by this new "Conservative" party.
Last week, in our Canadian Parliamentary system, a "Conservative" member disbanded a government meeting because someone indicated that the selling of Canadian resources without proper review and foresight was incorrect. That was against "Conservative" and his own views. Again the best interests of all Canadians seem to be left behind! If we continue down this road, to where our values are changed to meet the requirements of business, the elite and the "Conservative" government, then Canada will be similar to others. What would be the reason to be Canadian, or even have a Canada, or even have a Federal Government, or even to have a Canadian Media? The SPP initiative as designed provides that direction, and it is for us to determine the future of Canada as a country. The choices are rather simple, continue down the path to share values with others or maintain and build the values of an unique Canada. Make comments about this article in The Canadian Blog. |
