The apparent social psychology of Big Business elites on Global Warming is revealed by Iain Mackenzie Have you ever considered the social psychology of Big Business elites who prevails over the current course of environmental destruction associated with Global Warming? The following provides a synthesis of the apparent ideology associated with Big Business resistance to redressing Global Warming through the Kyoto Protocol and corresponding public policy measures: Global warming must and will continue, for the simple reason that commercial profits must be allowed to continue. Indeed, when Conrad Black at one time referred to himself as a "Darwinian capitalist", he spoke for all successful businessmen. Global Warming will create new opportunities for oil and mineral exploration to further commercial profit of owners of capital, along with shareholders. We, in the Business community have therefore determined that there is much to gain from Global Warming, and any politician anywhere in the world who wishes to remain in power, realizes that they must respect our wishes. Sure, it is okay for people like Al Gore, and Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party in Canada to talk all they want about stopping Global Warming. The fact of the matter is that sought action to curb Global Warming will not be stopped, and politicians from Al Gore to Elizabeth May and Stéphane Dion in Canada know this. However, I do enjoy the sincere looking theatre that they present to a gullible audience of TV viewers. Simply put, in my view, it is about time that people started to come to terms with a world much different than they have grown up in. I speak of a New World Order in which the pretentiousness of democracy as a feeble and outdated institution will be replaced by government that consists of the brightest intellectuals, the most successful businessmen, and of course, the military, which helps protect our property from the rabble. As business leaders, we created the world today, and is for us to continue to shape society, in the ways which will further economic growth, that is driven by our commercial prosperity. Economic growth is based upon our commercial prosperity, that relies on Climate Change continuing toward a Brave New World. Greed is "good". Greed drives civilization. Where do you think all the consumer products that you value come from, including your cell phones, fine jewellery, nice shoes and cool clothes, and great deals you find at place like Walmart come from? While some weak minded people whine about the effects of Global Warming, the possible extinction of polar bears, rising flood waters, drought, yada yada, they at the same time drive in their gas guzzling vehicles, and all seek to enjoy the finer things in life, that manifest from a "Global Warming" economy. The march of Human Civilization toward 'progress' must continue, in spite of protests from the "rabble". The mentality of the Big Business community associated with the Global Warming issue operates within the greed-driven context of global capitalism. Global Warming threatens to precipitate an environmental "tipping point", that results in the rapid planetary collapse life sustaining ecosystems that would result in the mass-extinction of humankind on Earth. Environmental disasters which has been caused from, for example, Hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes, typhoons, and volcanic eruptions, i.e. Pompeii centuries ago in Italy, shows that nature can act very quickly, with very destructive consequences, if ignored. Changing Earth's spiralling direction into a catastrophic tipping point requires the effectuation of a collective will to replace environment-destroying "capital-ism", with a people-oriented and quality-of-life affirming rejuvenated economic system, inspired by "people-ism". This will require, in part, appreciating and overcoming the apparent social psychology of Big Business elites. These elites pursue greed, within the prevailing economic system, similar to the pursuit of a "crack" cocaine addict for the elusive high. Big Business elites keep seeking that elusive high of the pursuit of greed, irrespective of the self-destructive consequences of the pursuit of their elusive "crack" cocaine-like high.
