Stéphane Dion's sell-out to George Bush's America contrasts with John Turner's former leadership

Stéphane Dion's refusal to defend Canadian interests against the Free Trade inspired "New American Union" (NAU) agenda, contrasts with the efforts of a different Liberal leader in 1988. John Turner did not sell-out like Stéphane Dion.

Indeed, Mr. Dion, who has had dual citizenship with France that is a member of the European Union, has not even called a news conference to champion Canadian interests against the NAU agenda.

In sharp contrast, Liberal leader John Turner in 1988 pledged a "bill-by-bill battle in Parliament and across to force the Progressive Conservative government into an election and sink its Free Trade deal with the United States."

"It is not a trade deal, it is the Sale of Canada Act", Mr. Turner had told a news conference on 2 January 1988.

"We intend to fight across the country," Turner vowed. "We intend to use the rules of the House of Commons in a legitimate way as the legislation is brought forward to implement this deal in terms of tariff legislation, banking legislation, and energy legislation. We intend to fight it every inch of the way."

Mr. Turner's criticisms of then Prime Minister Brian Mulroney can also be further made against the current Stephen Harper government, with the apparent collusion of Stéphane Dion. Indeed, Mr. Mulroney continues to be a principal advisor to Mr. Harper's government.

"What Mulroney is doing is singing away the title to Canada, which will be lodged with the United States", Mr. Turner had said. "It is a massive sell-out of our sovereignty and integrity as a country.

Turner had said that the deal was signed with "obscene haste" before Canadians has a chance to study the Agreement. and after a "farce" and "charade" of Parliamentary committee hearings, held before the final 218-page text was available.

Mr. Mulroney is now helping to coordinate the efforts of the current Conservative government, with the apparent alliance of current Liberal leader Stéphane Dion, to expedite the cultural, political economic, and social assimilation of Canada into the United States. The NAU would also effectively destroy any ability of Canadians to protect the remainder of their environmental heritage from continued over-exploitation, which includes such outcomes as accelerated Global Warming. Mr. Dion's apparent co-sponsored cover-up of the NAU betrays the lack of sincerity of his Office in seeking to support environmental conservation policies, and other vital Canadian national interests.
