LCBO stores raise funds for Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
by Sagal Ali
Toronto, ON – Starting September 1, 2007, Ontarians can make donations to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF) at all 600 LCBO stores across the province.
Donation boxes for the CCFF will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until September 30, 2007.
“We thank the LCBO, and its employees and customers for providing this opportunity. The LCBO’s province-wide store network is a very effective way for us to raise awareness and funds for our charity,” says Cathleen Morrison, Chief Executive Officer.
Cystic fibrosis (CF), which affects the lungs and the digestive system, is the most common, fatal, genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. When the CCFF was established in 1960, most children with cystic fibrosis were not expected to live long enough to attend kindergarten; today, half of all Canadians with CF are expected to live into their late-thirties and beyond.
“We are pleased to partner with the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” says LCBO Chair Philip J. Olsson. “LCBO’s customers have always responded generously to worthy causes, and we thank them for providing a positive change in so many people’s lives.”
The CCFF is one of 26 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from the LCBO’s province-wide donation box program in 2007. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are raised annually through LCBO’s in-store donation box program. In addition, LCBO’s annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.275 billion in fiscal 2006-07, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.
The Foundation thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store in September.
