Toronto film event demands freedom for Cuban Five group imprisoned in the U.S. since September 1998
Edited by Jenn Jones
Five Cubans - Fernando González, René González, Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero -- have been imprisoned in the U.S. for infiltrating and monitoring ultra-right violent organizations based in South Florida. Since the victory of the Cuban Revolution, the U.S. government has sponsored, financed and organized violent and terrorist attacks against Cuba using these groups.
One of the most notorious of such terrorists is Luis Posada Carriles, a CIA operative, who masterminded the bombing of a Cubana airliner in midair, in 1976, which killed 73 people on board. It is an outrage that the U.S. government which declared "if you harbour a terrorist, you are with the terrorists", allows Posada to walk freely in Miami, while the individuals who tried to stop these terrorist groups are put behind bars. Join us on the ninth anniversary of their arrest and learn the whole truth behind this injustice.
