Over 2 million Americans die every year because of neglected dirty hospitals under the Bush administration “War on Terror” agenda

by George Adams

The U.S. already has enough weapons the destroy the entire planet Earth. Yes, apparently, this is not enough for the U.S. political-military-complex which each year siphons of millions and billions of dollars into new Weapons of Mass Destruction, while U.S. hospitals deteriorate into hazards for the spread of infection, under an unethical for-profit healthcare system.

The American Spectator documents the case of one New Yorker who was taken to the hospital with a head injury. He managed to survive swelling and damage to his brain, but while he was in the hospital he contracted an infection. “It was the infection that killed him,” Patricia Moore explained, after burying her son. “I am only one voice, one mother, but I know that hospitals can lower their infection rates by implementing simple practices such as handwashing. This problem has been ignored too long.”

Ignored? Kept secret is more like it. You’ve seen the advertisements imploring you to use this hospital or that hospital because it has the best doctors, or the latest equipment. The one fact you don’t see advertised is the number of patients who get an infection while there. v The American Spectator further reports that: U.S. Hospitals are reported doing their best to prevent their infection rates from being disclosed. It’s no wonder. Every year, more than two million hospital patients in the U.S. contract infections, and nearly 100,000 die from them. The death toll is higher than from AIDS, breast cancer, and auto accidents combined. Statistics don’t convey the suffering. Patients who manage to survive a serious infection sometimes go through months of pain and repeated surgeries to cut out infected tissue.

The U.S. pharmaceutical industry in combination with for profit healthcare providers seek to exploit their own poor hygiene by prescribing new drugs to attempt to treat the infections that they originally create. In turn, these medical treatments often have side-effects, that often require patients to again spend their own money to treat worsening ailments. The U.S. privatized healthcare system is an unethical greed-driven industry, which totally lacks the accountability of public driven systems in Canada and elsewhere.

It is about time that the money be invested both toward the training of medical staff into maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, and toward improvements in American healthcare infrastructure. Doesn't America deserve a healthcare system which is fully accountable to the American people, rather than a healthcare system that is controlled by exploitative interests which seek to unethically exploit sickness for commercial profiteering.
