The Liberal and Conservative Parties are once again unofficially operating as One Big Political Party Most federal Liberals, think that they represent the same independent and forward-thinking party, which former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau had lead for most of the time from 1968 into the early 1980's. However, former Prime Minister Paul Martin, effectively destroyed a once great Canadian national institution when, without required parliamentary input, he signed the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPPNA) in 2005 at Waco Texas, with U.S. President George W. Bush, and Mexico's President. The SSPNA effectively ties the Liberal Party and now Conservative Party elites, into a joint pact to sponsor the sale of Canada to U.S. Big Business interests. Liberal leader Stéphane Dion is apparently pretending to be mounting opposition to the Stephen Harper government, while he is apparently cooperating with the Conservative Party , behind closed doors. The defeat of the federal Liberals in the Quebec by-elections, demonstrates that Canadians are beginning to appreciate the complete lack of sincerity which characterizes Mr. Dion's leadership of the Liberals. Saving the Liberal party, lies on Liberal grassroots supporters wakening up to the hijacking of their once great political party, by hostile and clever right-wing interests. The Liberal Party of Canada had been previously formally joined to the Conservative Party back in the late 1860's, and under Robert Borden from 1917 to 1920 as "Unionists", and afterwards under the name "National Liberal and Conservative Party" until 1922. It then reverted to "Liberal-Conservative Party" until 1938, when it became simply the "Conservative Party". It ran in the 1940 election as "National Government" even though it was in opposition.
