Critically acclaimed Native American author receives an award

Western North Carolina in the United States recently celebrated Minority Development Enterprise Week at a luncheon at the Asheville Renaissance Hotel. Cherokee author MariJo Moore, owner of rENEGADE pLANETS pUBLISHING, was picked from among 19 nominations of minority businesses in the retail, service, construction and restaurant across western North Carolina to receive the award for service. Among other winners was Teresa Williams (Eastern Cherokee) for Granny's Kitchen, Cherokee, NC (restaurant).

A small-business lender in Cherokee, NC, was also recognized, for work in lending to minority businesses, the Sequoyah Fund.
