Pet Hotels scheduled to open in Ottawa
Edited by Iain Mackenzie
Ottawa area pet parents don't have to be rich or famous to make sure their pets can take a bite (so to speak) out of the good life.
On December 1, 2007 the region's first two PetsHotels is scheduled to officially open their doors at the PetSmart locations at 1750 Innes Rd Ottawa E ON and 1851 Merivale E. Ottawa W ON.
I look forward to working with you to set up a segment or special behind-the-scenes tour of these new PetsHotels opening in your area. Also, keep your eyes open for our media kit, which is on its way to you as we speak (or bark). In the meantime, here's some PetsHotel information to chew on:
Boasting 5,000 to 7,000 square feet, each PetsHotel is located within a PetSmart store where canine and feline guests are treated to a high-quality day and overnight care service. Amenities range from poochy cots and hypoallergenic lambskin blankets to supervised play and park-like relief areas.
The Ottawa locations are just one component in PetSmart's overall plan to increase the number of PetsHotel within its stores to a grand total of 540. To date, PetSmart boasts over 70 hotels in 24 states. With plans calling for 35 new hotels this year alone, the company's boarding business is the largest and fastest growing in the sector.
Prior to checking in at PetsHotel, 40 percent of PetSmart's hotel patrons never boarded their dogs and/or cats. Half of all PetsHotel customers will also make the leap and purchase extras (like special treats and play time), while a third will opt for grooming services.
In addition, 40 percent of the pet parents call? via the bone booth? to hear their loved one's bark or meow.
PetSmart is getting the message as well. Stores boasting PetsHotels have seen their revenues jump by nearly 30 percent.
