Australian author residing in Canada presents some critical on the 9/11 Truth movement and society

by Alistair Smith

This commentary is in response to the joint initiative of the Canadian Action Party and Global Outlook. As part of that initiative, Connie Fogal, leader of the Canadian Action Party, asked what advice great historical figures, such as Jesus or Gandhi, would have to give us to assist in dealing with the critical issue of the truth of 9/11 in a rational and helpful way.

This strikes me as a very pertinent question as we enter a period of time in our evolution when we are becoming aware of our individual power and our right to exercise that power independent of the state. In many ways we are all challenged today to seek to become our own Jesus or Gandhi.

First, allow me to express my appreciation for all those who have championed the cause of truth in relation to this issue. This is a most important task and there is little doubt that those people will continue to push for an increase in awareness among the people of America and the world. The letter by Connie Fogal, however, effectively creates a new focus around 9/11. Instead of a truth movement what we have in front of us now is a healing movement. In approaching the task of responding to this initiative, therefore, I have asked myself what is required for the healing of America and the world as a result of what transpired on that fated day.

One of the more interested aspects of the 9/11 question, from my perspective, has been the ability of a nation to continue to live in denial in the face of such overwhelming evidence that the official version of the story falls somewhat short of the truth. Many of us are aware of how difficult it is for us to face our own shadow. It is often far more attractive for us to continue to live in denial than it is to confront the darkness within. I suggest that this dynamic operates at a collective level as well as at the individual level. I have read several recent reports from people who have spoken of the tremendous inner journey that was required before they could open to the truth that was being revealed to them around 9/11. The question I then seek to answer is what would be required to enable a nation to undertake such a journey.

We have all had experience in trying to get someone to see what was so obvious to us and yet remained hidden from them. Even in the face of overwhelming evidence, most people will cling to their existing safety zone unless there is a safe space within which they can begin to unravel their own denial. Why would it be any different for a nation as a whole?

Our world is held together by a complicated series of interwoven fields of consciousness. These fields are supported by the beliefs of the people while, at the same time, exerting influence is on those very beliefs, thus creating a cycle of interdependency which is almost impossible to break free from until one becomes aware of the dynamics that are playing out. Corporate marketing executives and politicians alike have learned how to use this dynamic to effectively control the way the people think and even feel.

Nowhere has this been more evident than in the way the U.S. Bush administration and the mass media have combined to create fields of fear within the American psyche as a result of what took place on 9/11.

The importance of understanding the dynamics of collective consciousness as an influencing factor in healing the wounds associated with 9/11 should not be underestimated. This influence can be considered from two primary directions.

First of all, the collective consciousness has its own intelligence. It is easy to cast the blame on the mainstream media for the failure of the American people to embrace the possibility of their government's involvement in the destruction of the Twin Towers. While this is most likely true, at some level, from a deeper perspective the collective consciousness of the American nation will simply not allow the truth to be revealed at a greater rate than it can be handled. We have all had to deal with the feelings of betrayal, powerlessness, a sense of being manipulated, fear and many other powerful emotions in the process of coming to terms with the horrendous implications of this single event.

The pain and anguish that would be released into the consciousness of the American people should the truth be revealed unambiguously would be so great that the people may never recover. Imagine, having lost your mother as a child, always believing she died of cancer, to suddenly discover that she had been murdered by the father who you have depended upon and loved all your life. It takes a great deal of inner strength to be able to deal with such a shock and yet this is the possibility we are being asked to confront as a nation.

This in no way suggests that we should not continue in our efforts to expose the truth. What it suggests is that we need to think seriously about what sort of space would be required to enable the collective consciousness to feel comfortable in allowing this truth to be embraced across the nation.

The second implication of the collective consciousness, in regards to 9/11, revolves around our oneness or interconnectedness as people. George Bush does not act in the isolation. His government is a reflection of the collective consciousness of the American people. The way the Bush administration behaves is, at a fundamental level, a reflection of the way we, as individuals, relate to power, leadership, and the need to be in control of our environment. If the collective fields operating within the American psyche did not support such a government it would simply not be able to sustain itself.

It is equally true, that those in power use their understanding of mass consciousness to nurture an environment that will support their own agenda. Nevertheless if the root of fear, desire to be in control and the desire to have power over others, did not exist in us then the methods used by the global elite to control the masses would prove useless.

As someone seeking to accept full responsibility for what I have created, therefore, I must ask myself how I have contributed to the manifestation of 9/11. This may be extremely challenging and uncomfortable but I, and we collectively, simply cannot seek to create a new world without first accepting responsibility for the one we have already created.

In moving forward with the healing of the implications flowing from 9/11 I would therefore, see two main avenues of activity being necessary. The first would be the creation of a space large enough and robust enough to allow the releasing and embracing of the deeply buried emotions that are locking America into a collective state of denial. The second aspect would be the creation of a space to allow a new understanding of the energies of power, leadership, structure and control to emerge so that the shadow aspects of these energies no longer have to manifest themselves throughout political and corporate leaders.

These initiatives are not intended to replace the current truth initiatives, but to add another dimension to the wonderful work being undertaken by so many today.

The question then is, what would such a space look like? I do not believe it is possible to design, or define in advance, what such a healing space would involve. Rather, we should consider the elements or attributes that might go to contribute to such an environment. This said, I will identify four key elements required as follows:

-- It would require the involvement of a wide variety of people, organizations and communities;

-- It would be a collaborative process, bringing together many diverse interest groups bound by the common goal of releasing the denial locked in the American psyche to enable a profound and liberating healing;

-- It would be an organic process, driven by the collective consciousness itself, shifting and evolving as the level of openness increased. As such, it would be a process that could not be controlled from a central hierarchy.

-- the process would need to be anchored by a core group of people who had reached a complete healing within themselves around the energy generated from 9/11. If you, as an individual, are trying to come to terms with the betrayal of a parent or loved one, it is essential to have people holding a space for you who are not emotionally invested in the same issue;

This final point is perhaps the most important, in the sense that it is the one aspect of such a healing movement which we, as individuals and as a movement, can really focus our attention on to. It is also the aspect that links both of the avenues I referred to above. In order to reach a complete healing within ourselves, to the depth necessary, we simply must come to terms with our own responsibility in the manifestation of the Bush administration and the abuses of power that appear to manifest through our large structures, whether they be governmental, corporate or financial.

The starting point for such a process may well be, therefore, the coming together of individuals who are willing to enter into a relationship with the energies of power, leadership, control and structure, as they manifested through and since 9/11, to the most profound level of healing. These individuals would be charged with two primary tasks.

Firstly to completely embrace their own shadow in relation to the identified energies to a point where they could move beyond the need for blame or judgment of those responsible for the current global situation. The second task would be to collaborate with each other to work out how such an individual process could be expanded to operate at the level of the collective consciousness.

I believe that once these two tasks were completed we would have a nucleus powerful enough to allow a global healing process to unfold which would, in turn, open the way for the liberation of the denial that is keeping the American people from embracing the truth of what happened on that day, and how it has been used by those in charge ever since. In essence, what we would be doing, would be assembling together hundreds and possibly thousands of Gandhis. The world witnessed the power of such profound openness yet there was only one Gandhi. Those who supported him were followers of the man rather than having attained the same depth within themselves. Consequently, when the British Empire withdrew from India, there was insufficient space to allow the denied fear that existed between different religious and ethnic groups to be processed and the nation descended into a period of chaos. Think of what could happen if a thousand Gandhis came together in collaboration.

I want to add that in suggesting the need to move beyond blame and judgment of those responsible for perpetrating the events on and following 9/11, I am not for one minute suggesting that they should not be held accountable and brought to justice. If it were to be proven that members of the government were involved, either directly, or by deliberate negligence in the events on that day then they should most certainly be brought to justice. This does not however, mean that we should not seek to find a deeper understanding of our connection as human beings nor that we should not seek to embrace our own responsibility in contributing to the shadow consciousness that is manifesting itself in the world today.
