Stephen Harper government's Americanization agenda is responsible for crime and other social problems

by Peter Tremblay

The Americanization agenda of Prime Minister Stephen Harper

The Americanization agenda of Prime Minister Stephen Harper [Left]is instigating conditions of social malaise and ensuing crime in Canadian cities [Right].

What do you get in Canada, when the federal government copies an American approach on fiscal policy, that puts more money, for example, into military spending and "tax rebates", and less money on vital social programs? The result is 'Americanization'. The Stephen Harper government is importing a culture of violence and ensuing crime in Canada's cities by pursuing an oppressive American elite-driven prism.

Americanization, is indeed the pivotal ideological agenda of Mr. Stephen Harper, in relation to his reported affiliation to the continentalist and far right wing Northern Foundation. Apparently, the Northern Foundation supports the U.S. take-over of Canada. Mr. Harper and his government acts consistent with having an alleged affiliation to the Northern Foundation.

Americanization, is basically a social Darwinian value system, which boils down to the idea that society progresses from fostering the "freedom" of elites to exploit the poor who are "inherently inferior", and toward the pursuit of maximized commercial profit. In America, which boasts the highest prison population per capital of any western industrialized nation, the poor who "get out of line" are simply to be arrested. In America, there is no substantive political concern to redress the dehumanizing conditions from which poverty and crime develop. Remedying that would require America's politicians to restrain the ability of Big Business interests in the U.S., to exploit Americans, in areas such as those which include for-profit healthcare.

Canada, was founded by founded in part, by culturally diverse Loyalists who fled the American Revolution, rejecting the value system of "every man, woman and child for himself and herself". Canada was by contrast, inspired by the idea written in our Constitution, of "Peace Order and Good Government". Canada's cities had developed having far less crime than U.S. cities, because Canadian cities were nurtured by a system of forward-thinking values, that were related to social safety nets; and those features had caused our cities to have much higher quality-of-living.

Vancouver’s Downtown East Side

Vancouver’s Downtown East Side (DTES) is home to over 5,000 intravenous drug users, and staggering levels of poverty, HIV infection rates, and social malaise.

Canadian cities, have traditionally had, for example, far less homelessness, when there was a system of rent controls and broader availability of social housing. However, Americanization through such devices as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and through the Security and Prosperity and Partnership of North America (SPPNA), is a blue print to further import the American style neglect of cities, which leads to a context of rampant crime. Vancouver, with its worsening economic disparity and related drug and crime problems, for example, will continue to be on the fast track to that type of Americanization, unless Canadians can defend Canada's national identity as a socially progressive society.

Canadians, through an appreciation of "Peace, Order and Good Government", have recognized that crime occurs in an environment of de-humanization, where social structures which value empathetic and mutualistic social responsibility, have been allowed to be broken down by greed. In a societal context of Americanization, where greed is glorified under the mantra of "freedom", people will inflict atrocities against one another, with little regard for human life, or the feelings of other, or for considerations of rights or property.

The alleged concern that the Stephen Harper has for "crime" through a "law and order" agenda is a mass deception strategy. The Stephen Harper government seeks a strategy of hiring more police, and of creating other related laws to emulate the U.S. neo-conservative's pursuit of an oppressive Police State, where human rights and social justice are totally marginalized, and are justified in relation to the so-called "War on Terrorism".

When people view themselves to be members of a community, and are socialized to operate in an environment of mutuality, they are far less likely to inflict crime against one another, than a society like the United States, where people tend to see each other as competitors who are engaged in a daily struggle for survival and relative dominance.

The Harper government is in the process of pursuing a public policy agenda which is directed at replacing vital communitarian oriented Canadian values, with a socially dysfunctional Americanization, and toward a Police State inspired now by a bleak ideological agenda.

Fascistic police evict Canadians

Fascistic police evict Canadians who cannot find homes because of the destruction of the availability of social housing under right wing provincial Liberal and Conservative federal government policies.

The continued copying of U.S. policies by Mr. Harper will continue to transform Canada, and its cities, into areas of economic disparity in places like New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Oakland, Milwaukee, Washington D.C., and St. Louis, which foster crime.

If Canadians want to stop this apparent plot by the Harper government, then they must seek the establishment of a new government, which will re-affirm the defence of Canadian values which has kept Canada having traditionally more healthy cities than the United States. Indeed, crime does not originate from a problem of "law and order", but instead it originates in public policies which created alienation and which correspondingly neglects vital human quality of survival needs.

Meanwhile, Canadians should not assume that they are being represented by an effective political Opposition in Parliament. Indeed, evidence suggests that elites in the Liberals, the Bloc, and even the NDP, have been providing an insincere and token resistance to Mr. Harper’s political agenda. Elites in supposedly Opposition political parties appear to be substantively colluding with the Harper government. This apparent collusion includes the neo-fascist SPP North American Union agenda.

Indeed a Toronto Star editorial published 9 November 2007, acknowledged that "Neglect by the federal government is putting Canada's cities at risk of budget breakdown and, quite literally, physical collapse.”

  Horrific poverty in Vancouver

Horrific poverty in Vancouver worsened by an Americanization agenda, fosters a culture of violence and ensuing crime. Vancouver has a higher per capital crime rate than Toronto and Montreal which are larger Canadian cities..

With a huge multi-billion budgetary surplus, the Toronto Star editorial elaborated that "Ottawa had a golden opportunity recently to help cities and towns. But rather than listening to Canada's mayors, and giving cities one cent from every six cents raised through Ottawa's goods and services tax, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty opted to reduce that tax by a cent. Instead of receiving the aid they need, cities were abandoned, in favour of corrupt expenditure programmes which include questionable Big Business supporting military and other contracts.

Mr. Harper's professed concern for crime, is as much of a political deception, as that of the U.S. President Bush administration’s self-professed concerns, that Harper in turn, seeks to emulate.

Mr. Harper's Americanization agenda had been largely hidden by elites in Canada, that have systematically bought out Canada's mass-media in order to oppress the reporting of this sell-out of Canada.

Indeed, mass-media like the Toronto Star in the early 1970's under the stewardship of famous Canadian nationalist Walter Gordon, played a key role in making Canadians aware of the threat of Americanization that time,. That was done through critical media coverage, and special public forums.

You might ask what does Mr. Harper and his Conservative associates expect to gain from an Americanization agenda?

Vancouver

Vancouver now has the worst economic disparity of any Canadian city, that has only been worsened by the Stephen Harper government's Americanization agenda..

The Conservative Party of Canada under Stephen Harper represents a consortium of wealthy U.S. neo-conservative inspired interests and related "think tanks" that seek to "prepare Canadians" for the complete assimilation of Canada into the United States. Why?

The apparent end-objective, is a neo-colonial grab for Canadian natural resources. The far right wing interests that Mr. Harper represents, do not want have to respect Canadian environmental concerns, human rights, and such considerations. By destroying Canada, as an independent country and sovereign nation, inclusive of the national ideals that Canadians embrace, neo-fascistic Big Business interests seek to replicate (north of the 49th parallel) an Americanized culture of social alienation and violence.
