| Terry Fox Foundation: Canadian cancer survivor reaches out by Adam Green I am 28 years old and I am a cancer survivor. Thirteen years ago I was diagnosed with lymphoma and underwent a chemotherapy treatment at SickKids Hospital in Toronto. During that treatment I became involved with The Terry Fox Foundation as a “Terry’s Team member.” As a volunteer team member I visit schools with a foundation representative to share my story of battling cancer with students. Each time I speak, I am inspired by the hundreds of students and teachers who are committed to finding a cure for cancer. Some students have been closely affected by cancer, others are fortunate not to have to face the harsh realities of this disease. Yet, regardless of their personal experiences, all are inspired by the story of Terry Fox and what he wanted to accomplish in his life. Personally, I am still moved by the work that Terry started and the work that his foundation continues today.
My involvement as a Terry’s Team member has allowed me to give back to an organization that has contributed so much to cancer research. It is because of that research that I am writing this today. It is very important to me, as someone who has been blessed with renewed health, to share with others an important message. Cancer can be beaten and I am living proof. I am reaching out to anyone who has had cancer to get involved as a Terry’s Team member. The Terry Fox Foundation is currently looking for cancer survivors, preferably aged 10-25, in any area of Ontario to contact Lisa Armstrong, school development officer, at 1-888-836-9786 x 224. I promise you that becoming a Terry’s Team member will enrich you with experiences that will stay with you a lifetime.
