| Jack Layton's NDP opts to protect Stephen Harper government from public outcry against NAU agenda by Gerry Masuda, British Columbia Editorialist
The Security and Prosperity Partnership Agreement (SPP) was signed in March 2005 between Canada, the US and Mexico. It was conceived, agreed to and is now being implemented in secret. SPP has never been debated in Parliament. The corporate controlled media and the CBC have suppressed all reporting on SPP. The question which Canadian should be asking is why the secrecy? It is secret because it is not good for Canadians -- only good for the largest corporations -- at the expense of the Canadian people. SPP is another stepping stone to North American Union (NAU), a merging of Canada, the US, and Mexico similar to the European Union. Why aren't Canadians told about SPP and NAU? And what about the secrecy surrounding the 'NAFTA Highway,' and the common currency called the Amero. Soon we will be absorbed by the NAU as a colony whose natural resources will be exploited for whose benefit? Certainly not for the benefit of Canadians. Each NDP MPs was sent one email (dated 11 Nov 07) and three letters (dated 10 Jun 08, 25 Jul 08, and 27 Aug 08) were sent to his/her constituency office pointing out the fact that only an aroused public could kill SPP. However, the vast majority of Canadians are unaware of SPP due to the corporate controlled media and CBC's blackout on reporting on SPP. The key to STOP SPP is to inform Canadians about SPP, its secrecy of implementation and the impacts it will have on our independence. It was suggested that the informing of Canadians could be achieved if the NDP adopted STOP SPP as its election platform. The few replies received from MPs merely noted all the many things the NDP were doing regarding SPP. The replies ignored the point made in the email and letters. One would think that, winning political power in Parliament by making STOP SPP the election issue, would motivate My Layton and his MPs. It has not. Why? There seems to be a conspiracy of silence regarding SPP. Where are the high-profile Canadians nationalists informing the public about the secret threats posed by SPP? Why aren't Canadian labour unions raising the issue of SPP more prominently? Where are the whistleblowers who could leak documents on SPPA and the timetable for implementation? What is upsetting is the inaction of many who are aware of SPP. Why? If the NDP adopted STOP SPP as its election platform, the news blackout would be broken and Canadians would become informed about SPP. Mr Layton could start the public debate on SPP during the nationally televised Leaders' Debates. This would be followed by discussion at all-candidate meetings and reporting by the media. In this way, Canadian voters could have an opportunity to express their feelings about SPP by casting an informed vote to STOP SPP. The importance of saving our sovereignty justified the NDP taking this action. Since the Conservatives and Liberals both support SPP, their members would have had to vote NDP to save Canada. The NDP could have win the elections in a landslide. Note. Further information on STOP SPPA can be found at LINK. Click on TOPICS at top of page and then click on "Gerry Masuda in The SPPA."
