British Columbia perspective: Economy is a Pyramid Scheme designed to fail

Kelly Litle, British Columbia Independent Editorialist

Victoria, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- Why can't anybody see this 'economy' is a complete farce? Seriously, wake up and use your critical thinking skills for just a minute. This is a pyramid scheme designed to fail that keeps us enslaved in perpetual debt so that corporations, banks and certain government 'officials' can keep it all.

We live in a resource rich, supposedly humanitarian country with brilliant technologies that could create a society so efficient and affluent that money would be redundant. The earth provides us with both the resources and the energy. And we have such abundance of clean renewal power that the entire planet could be run green and efficient indefinitely. Do your research and you will find that geothermal trumps them all, even oil and gas. And yet here is the state of things:

Corporations who run the politicians are relentlessly pushing oil, gas, coal, nuclear, hydrogen (good grief) because it is energy that they can control, placing the burden on the consumer. Money is the opposition to renewable energy, because beyond the initial infrastructure to implement green technology, very little is required in terms of labour or processing. Yet energy companies are busy trying to find a way to 'own' this resource to ensure dependency. We are allowing greed to stand in our way and enslave us.

Oil, gas, coal and nuclear are toxic to the environment. Government ads (think what they cost) are lamely telling consumers to reduce carbon emissions, while supporting the very source of the problem and brain-washing you to believe it is 'safe.' With 1% of the population controlling our planet, we are owned by rich companies determined to drive up prices, break local economies, recklessly deplete natural resources, and force governments to place the ultimate burden on the debt-slaves who they keep distracted with cell phones and junk food.

Food crops are being used for fuel or genetically modified in a world that is about to face a GLOBAL food crisis for this very reason. Wars make money and money is the weapon that's being used against the citizens. And the public has allowed it, so wake up.

Campbell has handed us over to the U.S. and now big companies in Alberta will have the ability to break municipalities and even school districts through litigation. This unethical law-breaking treasonous robber spends recklessly, gives himself a big raise, and cuts services to the most vulnerable in society. He can find money to build inefficient homes and huge buildings for games, but can't house the homeless in BC. Our ferry system is owned by a private corporation who answers to profits, not people. Our medical billing is in the hands of U.S. owned private companies. Our local farms are burdened by over-regulation and cheap imports, further distancing us from our food source. The impacts of this money-driven desire based economy are tyrannical and disastrous, yet we just go along stupidly thinking: "that's just the way it is." It is only because we've let it.

We in BC (indeed, the world) need to demand the implementation of green energy and self-sufficiency, demand the return of medical records and ferries into the hands of the people, demand support for local food sources, demand the detoxification of our food and clean water, demand the banning of genetically modified seeds, demand the elimination of the polluting carbon based energy systems, demand the health of the planet (thus ourselves), and demand the immediate resignation of Gordon Campbell and Stephen Harper.
