Desperate and dateless advertising on billboards

by Hannah Davies

IT'S not the most conventional way to attract potential partners. But when you're desperate and dateless, anything is worth a try.

For Murray Scarce and Lauren George promoting themselves on huge billboards is a last-ditch bid to find a soul mate. The Queenslanders are among 10 single Aussies advertising their search for love as part of a new nationwide campaign.

"It would be lovely to find that special someone in my life," said law student Miss George, 44. "The reason I'm still single is that I'm very particular. I want someone wonderful, or no one at all."

The campaign, Life Rules, was launched today by Sydney singleton Bea Obradovic, 40.

It aims to raise money for The Cure Cancer Australia Foundation and Heartkids Australia by getting interested men and women to pay to contact the billboard beauties.

Miss Obradovic, who features on the billboards herself, came up with the campaign after becoming increasingly frustrated with being unable to find a man.

"I decided it was time for some drastic action," she said. "I wanted to come up with an idea that was original, fun, and that would help me and other single people find a partner, but at the same time support people who are less fortunate than us."

Aircraft engineer and part-time actor Mr Scarce, 33, from the Gold Coast, is hoping to find his dream lady.

"I don't have a particular list of attributes that I want in a woman, but Kate Beckinsale is very nice," he said.

Look out for the singles on billboards at Milton Rd (West Brisbane), Merivale St (South Brisbane) and Wynnum Rd (Morningside).

The hopefuls can be reached at, LINK or LINK, for a cost of $15. Editorial reference, LINK
