| New Anti-Census Initiative Protests U.S. Take-over of Canada's census Canadians to be subjected to an American neo-Marthyistic invasion of Privacy. Can you believe it? A significant part of the upcoming May, 2006 Canada Census, particularly the census software, has been outsourced by Statistics Canada. That is bad. And with the Free Trade Agreement, the contract was awarded to a US subsidiary. That is worse. And the particular subsidiary awarded the May 2006 Canada Census is in fact a subsidiary of the colossal U.S. armaments manufacturer Lockheed Martin. That is simply outrageous! This raises several disturbing issues, including loss of Canadian sovereignty, and personal privacy. The soothing assurances issued by Statistics Canada are far from convincing. Many unanswered questions remain. Does the U.S. Patriot Act compel a U.S. subsidiary corporation to release private information about Canadians? The only way to have full confidence in the privacy of Canadians is not to contract out any part of the Census, period. In response to the outsourcing of the Census, a new website, CountMeOut.ca has been launched. The website is filled with practical suggestions for 'minimum cooperation' with the Census. Suggestions include not filing census information online as StatsCan urges, to opting for individual census forms for each member of a household, to placing stickers over the barcodes of census forms.
The May 16 2006 Canada Census presents all Canadians with an easy, yet extremely effective way to protest the sell-out of Canadian sovereignty through so-called "Free Trade"; and the continuing erosion of personal privacy and civil liberties. Visit CountMeOut.ca for further information. And spread the word. Don |
