What kind of Christians are these?
by M. Legault
The Bible warns of "wolves in sheep's clothing". This
can be viewed to be people who present themselves as
being devout. They may be Christians; and may be
among other religious faiths. However, their
commitments can be manifested in ways that are far
from being in the apparent spirit of the Bible, and
other devout texts. Jesus Christ in the apparent
overall spirit of the Bible, spread messages of peace,
lovingkindness, and social justice. This apparent
spirit of social justice promotes the need to
eradicate poverty, as a manifestation on unjust social
oppression, within messages of salvation. It also
promotes the need to focus on what happens to people,
rather than on what happens to net revenue.
Indeed, the emphasis on such unjust societal
oppression appears to generate results like the
breakdown of a vital empathy of individuals for each
other. It is apparent that the expressed heart of
those self-professed Christian elites (who legitimate
the workings of the prevailing American-led "global
capitalistic economic system") are anything but
"Christian", in the spirit of the Bible. These elites
who claim to be "Christians" actually operate within a
religious commitment to "Capitalism", which is
devouted to Mammon, rather than 'G-d'.
Mammon pivots on worship to its altars of the greed
for financial-equivalent gain, that is driving
humanity's current path of social and civic
disintegration, and environmental destruction.
Individuals, and groups that actually revered G-d "as
the creator of the Universe and all living things in
Nature", as expressed in the Book of Genesis in the
Bible, would neither actively execute, nor be
apathetically prevailing over initiatives that arm the
systematized destruction of Nature, along with human
quality-of-survival.
Capitalism, as further propelled by Corporate
Globalization has become a kind of societal cancer
that is inflicted by the worshippers of Mammon, that
mischievously disguise themselves as "Christians", in
order to deflect attention on their intent to execute
destructive strategies, in a drive to satisfy their
crass materialistic ambitions.
Did you ever notice that these apparent "Christian"
poseurs (led in Canada, in part, by Stephen Harper's
"Republican Party of the North") seem to always
champion the represented "vital" necessity of
corporate tax cuts, and other "corporate welfare"
schemes, but at the same time argue against redressing
poverty, providing social housing, educational grants
(in order to facilitate public accessibility), human
rights affirmations, and environmental protection of
the Earth that was supposedly created by G-d?
In the United States, in the name of supporting
commercial profit for elites, its professed Christian
leadership correspondingly champions the right of the
powerful 'owners of capital' to be able to exploit
minorities, the disenfranchised, and the weak,
including the sick, within the context of their
greed-driven private healthcare system. In this U.S.,
this type of commitment and operation is called
"freedom".
Yet:
"no man can serve two masters;
ye cannot serve both God and mammon."
- Bible (Matthew 6:24)
How do you recognize the worshippers of Mammon? They
will often, indeed, smile to the world, like "raving
wolves in sheep's clothing".
The most hypocritical worshippers of Mammon will go to
Church, sing great hymns, and say "Amen" every Sunday.
Meanwhile during the rest of the time, they turn a
blind eye to despoiling and the rape of fellow human
beings and of the Earth, which goes on in the name of
commercial profit. Constituencies of worshippers of
Mammon, will build great monuments, skyscrapers and
structures including roadways as portrayals of
"commercial progress", while presiding over
homelessness, sweatshops, child labour, and horrific
slums.
They will talk of peace, while waging war. Within
this milieu, they will also talk of "protecting the
life", while creating mounting carnage and casualties
of the 'innocent'. In so doing, they will ignore the
Commandment that "Thou shall not kill", while also
supporting penalties of death.
Among them will be the most professed devotees to
Christ and G-d. However, in their deeds, they
perpetuate and execute strategies that are designed to
obtain fascistic dominance and commercial gain for
themselves, as 'pagan gods of capitalism', at the
expense of others.
In order to accomplish this, they will prevail over
horrendous atrocities in pursuit of their sought bleak
"New World Order". Their words speak of "freedom"
while their heart expresses bigotry, racism,
oppression, violence, and gingoism, through various
plots. Their words will speak of the importance of
spreading democracy, while they spread oppression
through pre-emptive military interventions and a
"Orwellian" Police State that operates by their
exploitation of the fear that is created as a result
of their own machinations. While they proclaim a
desire for "security" and "order" to their supporters,
(who engorge themselves with gingoism and vengeance),
insecurity and chaos will follow them.
Ye Hypocrites. These worshippers of Mammon as they
ignore and leave behind a defiling trail of
environmental destruction, and social injustice, will
proclaim in their Churches that G-d created the Earth
and all of its living creatures.
Jesus Christ, in the Bible, expressed apparent
messages of lovingkindness, peace, and salvation for
the poor, against oppressors. It is apparent that
Jesus Christ also sought to heal the sick without any
sought emphasis on securing commercial gain.
In contrast, worshippers of Mammon will support and
pass laws against universal access to healthcare, and
will thereby deprive the sick, who do not have access
to superior commercial resources of vitally needed
treatment. The best healthcare will be reserved for
the greatest possessors of commercial wealth; who can
in turn generate sought commercial profit, status, and
power for private "health care management providers".
These worshippers of Mammon will also support other
enactments that favour the commercially rich over a
growing institutionalized poor -- who are often
without basic access to food, clothing, shelter, and
housing, and who live in worsening conditions of
alienation, social malaise, and ensuing crime. These
worshippers of Mammon seek to enhance the commercial
self-aggrandizement of large greed-driven corporate
interests -- that destroy the sacred environment in
their pursuit of oil, and other pillagings of the
Earth, supposedly created by G-d.
These worshippers of Mammon will also spread messages
which proselytize that their activities support
"economic growth", when in fact, their activities when
critically examined spread economic destruction of
economic well-being among large sectors of the
population.
These worshippers of Mammon will betray their worship
at the altar of Greed, through violent means. They
will seek to obtain technology that can facilitate
their desires for draconian social control against
other human beings; and they will in the name of
"freedom", destroy effective freedom, in their
substantive pursuit of tyranny (which yields rewards
of money, status, and power).
These worshippers of Mammon, in the name of the
apparent self-absorbed pursuit of their greed, will
prevail and secure laws which ignore the vital sacred
protection of the Heavens and the Earth, (from the
ozone layer, to the oceans, to the ancient forests,
and all its living species; and the quality of the air
we breath).
Worshippers of Mammon will speak of salvation and the
Holy Spirit, while breaking the spirit of human beings
as mere objects to their greed and crass materialism.
Worshippers of Mammon will defile vital ecosystems,
and will as well as spread diseases, toxins, and other
poisons that create unspeakable human suffering,
toward the goal of generating commercial profits for
vaunted "private enterprise" activities. These
activities will be executed in the name of "economic
growth" that substantively cause decline in the
quality-of-living.
Such sought commercial profit will be achieved by
unethically passing off social and environmental costs
onto the rest of society. These costs include
polluted waterways, air, and lands the result in
debilitating ailments, diseases, famines, and many
other human and ecosystem related catastrophes.
Arguably the embracing of the spirit of the Bible
would inspire a people-oriented economic system, in
association with principles of human rights, peace,
social justice, and environmental protection would
require the rejection of the greed driven capitalist
economic system.
It is apparent that Stephen Harper's "Republican Party
of the North", for example, merely uses "Christianity"
as an apparent euphemism for their embracing of a
"religion of capitalism", along with its dysfunctional
context of Corporate Globalization.
