TV Cook Clarissa Dickson Wright Dies



Clarissa Dickson Wright, probably best known for being half of the cookery duo, Two Fat Ladies has passed away.

Her screen companion, Jennifer Paterson died I 1999 of cancer after filming four series. Dickson-Wright died on Saturday in hospital at the age of 66. Dickson-Wright was born in to a well-off family and inherited £2.8 million when her parents died.

She was later declared bankrupt on several occasions, putting it down to drinking and debauchery. She explained that coming from a well-off family meant that she had never had to worry about money and so did not learn that it did not grow on trees. She took to drinking after the death of her mother and met partner Clive who died in 1982 of kidney failure due to drinking. She eventually gave up drinking in 1987.

Her career started off in law when she became the countries youngest female barrister at the age of 21, but that was cut short due to her drinking and she then started cooking in clubs and private houses and went on to manage a cook shop.

She ran her own catering business and worked on a yacht, she even became a guild butcher, one of only two English women that have ever done so. She was famous for cooking many types of meat, including game in her cookery shows and also was an outspoken campaigner for rural life.

Between the years of 1998 and 2004 she was the Rector of the University of Aberdeen and a spokesman for the University explained that they were saddened by her death and that she had brought style and individualism to many events at the university.
