Genetically Modified Corn endangers Health







Mike Adams has reported on the conclusion of an alarming new study in Natural News. The study has examined the effects of eating genetically modified (GMO) corn. The corn product was from the Monsanto Corporation. It has developed shocking tumours in rats. The study has been published in the Food & Chemical Toxicology Journal and presented recently at a news conference in London.

Monsanto Company is an American multinational agricultural corporation with its headquarters in Missouri. It is a leading manufacturer of genetically engineered seed. It was among the first corporations to genetically modify a plant cell in 1983.

The study has elaborated further, “The animals on the GMO diet suffered mammary tumours as well as severe liver and kidney damage.” The point to ponder over here is that while Monsanto thrives on its genetically modified seed, the generations in the future are likely to be subjected to nutritionally void and disease causing food.

The study has also confirmed that GMO corn has alarmingly high levels of glyphosate. The levels are 130,000 times more toxic at 13 ppm than what the Environmental Protection Agency allows as standards. Even the formaldehyde level of GMO corn is very high. It has been found that 0.97 ppm of formaldehyde is toxic to animals and the GMO corn that was fed to them was containing an amount that was two hundred times that amount.

The questions that need to be asked are “Why is it being fed to humans if it is so toxic? Why are humans interested in eating it in the first place after knowing all this? Are they led on by pretty labels and safety promises? Robyn Griggs Lawrence, reporting for Natural News, has also mentioned that genetically modified corn can be an open invitation to diseases like cancer and infertility. He says that “What a person consumes is what they become.”

Big games at the big levels have got Monsanto Corporation and other biotech corporate giants to be absolved from the `crimes’ in the food industry. Monsanto has done lobbying recently with the federal government in its bid to protect its GMO industry. It was able to convince President Obama to pass a provision through `Protect Monsanto Act’ that exempts them from the GMO liability despite the health risks that have been brought to the fore by the study done by the Food & Chemical Toxicology Journal.   

A recent survey done on Natural News to name the Most Evil Corporation of the Year earned Monsanto Corporation that dubious honour when more than eight thousand voters gave it that distinction. This number was 51% of a total number of participants of 16,000 as reported by Robyn Griggs Lawrence.

The Corn Comparison Report of 2012 has also given a detailed report of the nutritional deficiencies of the GMO corn in comparison with the standard organically grown corn. The report indicates that organic corn has 14ppm of manganese while the GMO corn has only 2ppm. Organic corn has 6130ppm of calcium while GMO corn has only 14ppm. Organic corn has 113ppm of magnesium while the GMO corn has only 2ppm.

The Monsanto Protection Act has stirred such a furore that people all over the world are planning a big protest against the biotech corporation on 25th May this year.
