Fall: A season for stain fighting

(NC) -- Whether it's summer, fall, winter or spring, kids love going outside and getting a little 'dirty'. But for the person in the household responsible for doing laundry, outdoor play can result in a slew of stains that need to be dealt with off the field.

Maeve Glass is the Equipment Manager for Canada's national women's soccer team and a mom of three, which means she's earned her stain removal stripes. Maeve has partnered with the maker of OxiClean stain fighter to share her simple tips on how to keep clothes stain-free.

“Playing outside is one of the best things about being a kid, but it's also the messiest,” says Maeve. “But moms and dads don't need to spend time stuck inside the laundry room. Here are my top three tips to help keep kids and their clothes looking their brightest”

• Don't be cruel to whites. White is a staple in many wardrobes, and lots of parents turn to bleach to keep those whites looking their brightest. But bleach can actually be harmful to clothes! To keep whites looking their best and to extend their lifetime, instead stick with a chlorine bleach-free whitening product, like the new OxiClean MaxForce Pure Whites Laundry Stain Fighter & Booster. Available in liquid and powder format, it's designed to get whites up to 50 percent whiter versus a leading detergent alone.

• Get the whole family in on the action. Getting your kids involved in household chores, such as laundry, is not only a great way to teach them about responsibility, it is also a great way for a mom or dad to bond with their kids. Give out age-appropriate tasks, from sorting colours (for little ones) to taking responsibility for their own laundry (with older kids).

• Pre-treat. Stains don't have to stop the party, but the faster they're dealt with, the easier your life will be. Tackle stains before they can set it with a pre-treater like OxiClean MaxForce Spray. By spraying the area before washing, you'll tackle tough stains like grass, mud, barbeque sauce and chocolate to get them out the first time.

“From the soccer pitch to the playground, when kids play outdoors their clothes are naturally going to get dirty - and let them!” says Maeve. “Getting the odd grass or mud stain is a kid's badge of honour and parents will be fine with it knowing they have the best tools at their disposal to get clothes looking good as new.”
