Same Sex Marriages: Controversy's Theory and History

Treating the feelings of every citizen of society equally is nearly impossible. What is possible is to address that equality in terms of rights and laws and attempt to stop others from hindering the experience of a fellow citizen’s rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This issue is profoundly difficult when considering a cultural divergence from much of human history’s fundamental belief system and that is where same sex marriages fall. The impacts are not only fundamental but noticeable and important for the development of society into the 21st century.

Theory Behind Controversy

Since homo-sapiens are monogamous by nature there is speculation that a relationship between lifelong partners of the same sex is not as beneficial for the population and society in general. There has been much attributed to child bearing and upbringing and marriage as a key role to success. Allowing same sex marriage deeply affects the nature of both of these fundamental parts of a successful species and populations. This allowance of same sex relationships has been developing for many years in the western hemisphere and it has now come to the point where marriage is not only acceptable but justifiably a right that is being denied from homosexual citizens. Many states have legalized or are considering the legalization of same sex marriages, since the recent acceptance and betterment of treatment for homosexual throughout Western Culture.

Brief History

Traditionally a same sex relationship would not produce offspring and the ability for this behavior to be viable in a human society like all other natural societies would have been dismissed as inadequate. Many changes in recent years have helped push for a household that is maintained by a same sex couple to remain as functional as any heterosexual heads of households can.

A dominating figure in determining the conclusions of many opinions on this matter are leaders in many religious groups. Religions play a major historical role of scrutiny and unjust behavior toward homosexuals for thousands of years. Not surprisingly, the heads of these institutions continue to scrutinize homosexuals. Instead of adapting, religions tend to remained conformed to a traditional way of thinking and are slowly teaching many unjust ideas when it comes down to homosexuals and same sex marriage.

Recommendations

Many recent developments of our understanding in philosophy, ethics and the human experience have been the momentum for the changes in our society over the last 50 years. Many debates on this topic are altogether cumbersome on the mind and filled with bigotries beyond recognition for a common citizen not part of the sect throwing the allegations of cultural diversity and creating hate from it (Barbanel, 2012).
