The “Lower 48” is gearing up for the major sporting event of the year, the Superbowl. Despite Football being a mostly an North American passion the Superbowl has become a truly international event, and viewed throughout almost every country in the world. An argument can be made that this grand spectacle is so greatly anticipated because of its violent nature and warlike strategies, but the its real irresistibility may not be in the game itself, but in it’s commercial advertising.

Major companies will spend tens of millions of dollars for just for a 30 second spot aired during this championship game, and the reviews on those commercials have been known to generate incredible revenues or devastate a corporation’s bottom line. If the general public likes a commercial, the company as well as the advertising firm will be talked about for weeks to come. These advertising spots are created to be specifically aired during the Super bowl, knowing that the number of people watching may be the largest viewing audience of the year.

Surely not all of those tuning into the game are Fans of Football, so it must be the spectacle of it all and the over-the-top halftime shows which typically feature mega stars entertaining the masses that draw the massive audience. But lets not forget there is actually a sporting competition going on as well, not just a competition, but a championship game. These players have dreamed of this moment since they were little and it’s all about to come to a climax. Those advertising executives have dreamed of this moment since they were the editors of their high school newspapers. Financial advisors are watching too as a well received commercial can send certain stocks skyrocketing.

The best team from each conference of the National Football League is about to clash to determine the undisputed champion for that year. There will be mini dramas taking place, as various personalities of the players and coaches will be exploited. Injuries will be talked about and discussed in overwhelming detail, while the beginning and ends of many player’s careers will also be determined. This is the Superbowl, a sports fan’s dream and an advertiser’s aspiration.
