Tonight, head down to the Fringe Festival to catch Mabel’s Last Performance (stellar review over at Fully Fringed) before listening to Brendan Flynn and the Terrible Liars at the Elmdale, or the Barr Brothers at City Hall. An earlier music show gets started at 7pm with High Waters and friends at Pressed. If you really want to fill up your evening, add a vernissage at the Ottawa Art Gallery before taking on any of the other activities. If sitting in a cool, dark theatre sounds the most appealing, take a seat at Arts Court Theatre for four great shows happening tonight.

Friday, it should be hot enough for Feverfest to live up to its name. This music festival kicks off with Common Citizens and more, down at the Clocktower in the Glebe. Destroyer (featuring Dan Bejar of The New Pornographers) is also in town, following on the heels of local band Dry River Caravan. Acoustic music can help you cool down, as can singing along to your favourite John Travolta movie. Or? Go drink beer.

If you can fit in all of the following activities on Saturday, you should get a gold star: start out with some Beechwood art at this pop-up music/art/food event. Then go Fringing at 12:30pm for Alien Predator: The Musical (review!), and follow it with a good dose of catchy tunes with the Peptides at Feverfest. Continue south to Mooney’s Bay for the Dragonboat Festival to chill for a bit, before heading back up downtown for a full evening starting with Fevers, then catching Siskiyou at Raw Sugar. Then it’s time for Leftovers at the Fringe, before the Slim Moore and the Mar-Kays show at the Jazz Fest. Your night ends at the No Pants Dance Party – by then, the heat will likely have forced you to strip down anyways, so why not dance?

Sure, that’s a pretty wild day – you could also just head out and listen to music on a farm. What will you be doing to cool down, fellow Ottawans?
