Canadian drugstore halts Christmas music

Shoppers Drug Mart has decided to stop playing Christmas music in their store for the time being. The store has announced that they will only resume playing the music in the later part of the Holiday season. The store was prompted to take this decision after a few customers complaint that it was too early for the store to play Christmas music. The decision was announced by the store on its official Facebook Page. A note posted on the 2nd of November, 2012 says,

“We do take customer feedback to heart, and it does lead to change,”

The store had joined Facebook a year ago and since then the management has been giving a lot of importance to all the comments and feedback posted on their official page. Tammy Smitham, the spokeswoman for the company, has mentioned that they will start playing the music few days before Christmas. In an interview given to The Star, she has mentioned,

“We’ve always started our Christmas music around this time of year,” she said, adding after Halloween you move into the next holiday. “For most people, they felt it was too soon. What we decided to do is delay it by a couple weeks, and sort of play it by ear and align it close to the holidays.”

The official note posted on the Facebook page was as follows:

“Hi everyone, due to recent complaints around the Christmas music being played in stores, we want to advise you that as of midnight EST tonight, all Christmas music will be suspended until further notice. We do take customer feedback to heart, and it does lead to change. Thank you for your patience around this and have a fabulous Friday,”

However, this action has received mixed response from the customers. Many of them have expressed their displeasure at this decision, through posting comments on Facebook. A customer expressed her displeasure at this decision by posting the following,

"I just don't get why people would complain about Christmas music... It is November afterall, and people are having Christmas early for their children and family that are fighting the war!I would like to know who the person was who complained!!!! I have never had a problem with Shoppers Drug Mart and have been a faithful and loyal shopper!"

On the other hand, some of the people have also cheered this decision saying that they did not liked the idea of listening to Christmas music such early in the season.

One of the comments posted on the note says, "Always nice to wait until after Remembrance Day to play Christmas Music, just out of RESPECT."
