Prevent Extinction: Let's Save Pollinator Bees

(NC) -- Most of us are aware of the decline in bee populations around the world – but according to Wildlife Preservation Canada, did you know that bees pollinate more than 80 per cent of our flowering plants, fruits and vegetables? It is the bee that makes possible much of the food we eat.

Bee-saving initiatives are underway however, including a major project to open the first- ever 'bee hotels': four in Toronto and one in Guelph. These hotel-habitats (that replicate the natural nesting sites of solitary pollinator bees) are the result of a partnership between: Pollinator Partnership Canada, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to this cause; plus leading skin care company, Burt's Bees Canada; accommodation giant, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, a supporter of bees for many years on a global scale; and property designer, Sustainable. To Architecture + Building.

If you would like to participate in the cause as well, it's worth noting that in the month of June, Burt's Bees is donating 100 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of its new Hydrating Lip Balm with Coconut and Pear to the bee hotel initiative. This product will be available online at burtsbees.ca/wildforbees (in June) and at major retailers in July.
