Natural cleaning: Top five inexpensive solutions

Whether you're on a tight budget, or just wanting to save some extra money so you can justify your latest shopping spree, making your own cleaning supplies will help! You've already started making your own HE Safe Detergent, now's the time to whip up some all purpose cleaners as well - for pennies on the dollar!

Cleaning the house isn't something that anyone really loves to do, but of course it has to get done. Save big bucks while making your home sparkle and shine by making your own cleaning solutions!

There are many cleaning recipes on Pinterest, Google, and other sites across the web. See which ones work best for you and then label your spray bottles so you can actually remember which recipe you used when it's time to replace them.

Windex Knock-Off

3 tablespoons ammonia
3/4 cup water
1 tablespoon white vinegar
2 drops blue food coloring

All Purpose Spray Cleaner

In a gallon jug, combine:

1 pint rubbing alcohol
1 tablespoon dish washing detergent
1 tablespoon household ammonia
1 tablespoon vinegar

Top off the jug with warm water. Cap and shake carefully. Pour into a spray bottle and use to clean counters, bath fixtures, and more!

Air Freshener Spray

1/4 c. baking soda
4 c. warm water
1 tsp of 1 of lemon, strawberry, or vanilla extract

Carpet Deodorizer

2 cups cornmeal
1 cup borax
10-15 drops essential oil (I prefer lemon)

Combine ingredients. Sprinkle on carpet, then vacuum up about 15 minutes later.

Refrigerator Cleaner

1 tablespoon baking soda
1 teaspoon lemon extract or vanilla extract
4 cups water

Making your own cleaning solutions is not only cost effective, it's better for the environment! Go green by making your own cleaning supplies.

Remember that some ingredients shouldn't be mixed together -- check the labels (or Google) to see if what you're mixing up is safe. Keep all cleaning supplies (homemade and store bought) out of the reach of children.
