Rob Ford: Gawker campaign should return money

With Toronto’s Mayor Rob Ford making huge splashes in the scandal pool, people have been coming up with ways to exploit this story further and make some money from guileless citizens of Toronto and other places as well.

The newest edition to such a scheme is the entry of Gawkers ‘Crackstarter”. It had stated its goal to raise $200,000 so that Ford’s video in which he allegedly can be seen as smoking crack cocaine can be purchased.

With such noble intensions, it is not a wonder that people rushed to donate their money and in some cases their iPhones as well. Nobel being a word dripping with sarcasm, these people gave money only to be part of an ever-growing scandal and get their kicks out of it. Nevertheless, Crackstarter managed to raise its desired goal with Mike Pultz from Toronto being the last person to donate so that its desired target could be reached. This money though raised should be used to obtain the video as promised.

But no, the creators have actually declared that this money cannot be used to obtain the video as they have tried their hardest but the video is nowhere to find. Ho ho ho. So now, what do their moral campaigns go further into?

Well they have decided to donate the entire amount of money to a charity of their choice since the video has deemed to be unavailable for the moment. Some might call this slick move virtuous, but I believe that this money is of the people. They donated for a cause and if that cause could not be achieved, this money should be returned to them. It does not in any way belong to the ‘Crackstarter’ hence giving them no right to spend it as they see fit.
