The Amazing Race Comes To Canada

Canadian fans of TV’s “The Amazing Race” now have an exciting reason to rejoice. Producers of the long running American series recently announced that soon they’ll be launching a Canadian spin off of the show. This new version will not only feature Canadian participants but it will also be shot exclusively within our country’s borders.

On the Dec. 2nd episode of “The Amazing Race” host Phil Keoghan officially announced the upcoming Canadian version of the show. Canuck fans will soon not only be able to watch the thrilling real life race but a lucky few will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to actually participate in it.

The popular show pits teams of two players against each other in a frenzied, thrilling, and often dangerous race around the world. The objective of the series is to follow the teams as they travel to various countries and complete a number of tasks and so called “roadblocks”. The show’s adventures can include everything from bungee jumping to performing a cultural dance, to eating exotic (and often stomach turning) local fare. As the race progresses and one by one teams are eliminated and the first couple over the finish line wins the grand prize of a million dollars.

In the homegrown version of the show teams will be racing to various locations throughout this vast nation of ours. The producers will have an almost endless choice for possible race destinations. Some stops may include the cold expanse of Canada’s north, the rugged and challenging landscape of Newfoundland, landmarks such as the CN Tower and Confederate Bridge, as well as historic stops in places like Old Montreal.

Specific details for “The Amazing Race Canada” have not yet been released. Elements such as participant recruitment and host will be released in the coming months. The show, which will air on CTV, is set to premiere in the summer of 2013.
