Located in the middle of the Mojave Desert, in southern California, the small city of Twentynine Palms (it was previously called Twenty-Nine Palms) is an urban centre with only 25,000 inhabitants.

Its sandy, desert-like climate, its beautiful landscapes and its proximity to Oasis Mara have made of this town a popular touristic destination in the region. Additionally, it gained fame since legendary singer and composer Robert Plant (former Led Zeppelin singer) wrote the song called “29 Palms” while touring in California.

However, on 26 June, this small village would be the scene for an extraordinary event.

According to an anonymous report published on UFO specialised website MUFON.com, “a black sphere the size of a beach ball” was seen moving across the sky of the Californian town.

“At 5:20 in the morning on 26 June I was walking my dogs along a regularly travelled route just before sunrise”, the witness related. “As I was walking east along Samarkand Road, I spotted a black sphere the size of a beach ball ascending slowly from a rooftop”, he continued.

He said that it immediately caught his attention because it was an object he is “not used to seeing at that position”.  

A few minutes after ascending, “the sphere hovered for a moment”. Nevertheless, after performing these movements, “it took off in the opposite direction from which I was walking, east towards the coming sunrise”, the witness said. “At first it travelled slowly, then gained speed to approximately 35 mph”, he commented.

He also felt unsure about the origin of this unidentified craft. “I thought it may have been some type of drone”. But he knew it was something different because “no forms of propulsion were detected, and I should have heard some noise if it was a kind of drone, but it was completely silent”.

Finally, the object was seen for some minutes more after fading in the distance. “I watched it for approximately 3 minutes until I could no longer see it (because it was eventually so far away) as it travelled over the desert”.

The witness affirmed having been surprised by this event, but not afraid. “I was very curious, but not scared”, he stated.

Long Description of Sighting Report

At 5:20 in the morning on 26 June I was walking my dogs along a regularly traveled route just before sunrise. As I was walking east along Samarkand Rd I spotted a black sphere the size of a beach ball ascending slowly from a rooftop. It caught my eye because it was movement within my line of sight and an object I am not used to seeing at that position. No other people were in sight, and after ascending, the sphere hovered for a moment. After hovering, it took off in the opposite direction from which I was walking, east towards the coming sunrise. At first it traveled slowly then gained speed to approximately 35 mph. I thought it may have been some type of drone, though no forms of propulsion were detected and I should have heard some noise if it was a kind of drone, but it was completely silent. I watched it for approximately 3 minutes until I could no longer see it (because it was eventually so far away) as it traveled over the desert. I was very curious, but not scared. I told a neighbor and my friend what I saw, then made a report on ufo hunters and this site after failing to reach out to the Ground Zero radio show with Clive Lewis.
