Anti-Aging: Three top tips for Healthier Choices

LIVE CHAT

(NC)—Nature is renewed after its winter slumber and many of us feel that spring is the perfect time to take inventory of our health and well-being.

Studies show that, as a whole, Canadians are making a more conscious effort to live healthier lives. A recent Ipsos Reid survey commissioned by the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) shows that more than half (57%) of us are making healthier food choices and incorporating additional physical activities into our daily lives (40%). CHFA is the country's leading trade organization in support of natural health and organic products.

“Canadians are increasing their efforts to promote and maintain their health,” says Helen Sherrard, president of CHFA. “In fact, as many as 71 per cent of those surveyed say they have used a natural health product, and their appetite for organics is on the rise.”

Take a look at CHFA's top three suggestions to make spring a time to renew, refresh, and rethink healthy choices:

1. Reach for more whole foods—Convenience is entrenched in the Canadian lifestyle, sometimes leading us to grab fast, processed food and snacks on a regular basis. However, experts remind us that it's as convenient, and a much healthier option, to eat whole, typically unprocessed and unrefined foods. Nuts, seeds and fruits are good examples of healthy ready-to-eat foods.

2. Learn about natural foods and natural health products —There is an abundance of information available in print and online. You can stop by your local health food store or talk to your healthcare provider about how to balance your health through natural health products and proper eating.

3. Go organic—Certified organic food, grown and handled according to strict procedures and without persistent toxic chemical inputs, is a healthy benefit for Canadians and the environment.
