Helping people in need find help

(NC) – Advances in public health and medicine extended the duration of our lives in the 20th century. The price of living longer is an epidemic of chronic, incurable diseases with many people now living with more than one health issue at a time. With a healthcare system focused mainly on acute, curable diseases, many Canadians are faced with limited access to health and social services, which makes finding information about relevant resources difficult and overwhelming.

The Phi Group, at the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation (www.ehealthinnovation.org) has partnered with patients, families and health professionals to simplify the search for health and social services. Together, they are building the Health eConcierge, an online ecosystem that makes it easier for service providers of any size to share information, and for the public to find services that meet their needs. The aim is eliminate the frequent phrase, “I wish I had known that service existed.”

Health eConcierge is one of five healthcare projects in the Green Shield Canada Foundation Health Innovation Collaborative (www.gscfoundation.ca). This three-year project aims to solve the unmet needs of both caregivers and seniors living with multiple chronic conditions.
