Canada exposed to MERS by doctor suggest reports

According to reports citing U.S. health officials, a doctor may have exposed Canada to the MERS or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome after he was supposedly exposed to the virus from a patient in Florida. The location of the doctor has not been revealed as of yet, and as per reports, the doctor isn’t currently showing symptoms of MERS.

Hospital officials have claimed that the doctor flew to Canada before he even knew that he might be at risk for the virus. The doctor came in to contact with a patient in Orlando, who has a confirmed case of MERS. At the moment, the doctor is believed to be undergoing testing, and is taking the proper precautions.

A health official at the Dr. P. Phillips Hospital in Orlando said that, “It all happened before the proper isolation precautions were initiated”. In Orlando, two health workers are believed to have been moved to the emergency room with flu-like symptoms, after they came in contact with a patient who was confirmed to have MERS. At the moment, this exposure is said to be the first in Canada, but, Dr. Mary Vearncombe, who serves as a microbiologist at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center told that CBC that MERS is definitely heading to Canada.

Canada has not yet had any confirmed cases of MERS come up. Although any warnings have not been issued by officials, Foreign Affairs has advised travellers to seek medical attention immediately if they suffer from flu-like symptoms within two weeks of returning to Canada from the Middle East. Advisories have also been posted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at more  than 20 American airports to warn travelers about the virus.
