Sunscreen is more valuable if it hydrates the skin

(NC) -- Canadians, it seems, are not vigilant enough about preventing sun damage, aging, and skin cancer. These are the findings from a recent survey of adult Canadians conducted by Ipsos Reid on behalf of Neutrogena and Aveeno skincare brands of Johnson & Johnson.

Did you know, for example, that 54 percent of respondents think it is fine to tan as long as you don't burn? And, 69 percent are under the impression that skin cancer is correctible if it is detected early enough. Compounding that risky behaviour: only one in every 10 of us has ever had skin cancer screening from a dermatologist.

Sunscreens are essential for protecting our skin from the damage of ultra-violet rays, but when it comes to the skin on our face, many of us want more than just the all-important sun protection. From head to toe, we also need the lotion to be good for our skin, to replenish hydration, and to prevent dryness.

Tall order?

“We're now offering a two-in-one solution that conveniently protects and hydrates with the benefits of oat proteins,” says Aveeno brand manager, Ehsan Sarrafian.

Traditionally, oatmeal has become a star around the world for its inherent ability to moisturize, soothe, and nourish the skin. Aveeno has optimized this natural ingredient with science, says Sarrafian, and created Active Naturals colloidal oatmeal, which is now a key ingredient in the sunscreen collection called, Protect + Hydrate. This sunscreen is unique in that it is able to deliver full broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection plus deep moisturizing benefits.

“Based on consumer studies, as many as 67 percent of consumers have told us that they want sun protection that prevents dryness,” he continues, “so on the days that you can't tell how often you will be outdoors, just apply Protect + Hydrate to both your face and body before heading out and reapply it every two hours. Every application is water- and sweat-resistant for 80 minutes as well, keeping skin hydrated and protected from the sun. If these lotions are applied on a regular basis, the nourishing properties, even for sensitive skin, can help to reverse dehydration caused by the sun and other environmental stressors, leaving it feeling naturally healthy and beautiful.”

Wear your sunscreen.
