Diabetes And Fruits



We all love to enjoy the fruits as they are good and healthy for us. They have bundles of healthy impacts on our body as they are rich in minerals, fibers and vitamins. But a question rises in millions of heads when it comes to a diabetic patient. Are there any fruits that can be good for diabetics? Many diabetic patients avoid eating fruits because of the increased level of blood sugar in fruits which can worsen their situation. But to your surprise the answer to this question is YES! There are some fruits that can be enjoyed by a diabetic patient.

If a diabetic chooses its fruits and its proportion wisely than he can too enjoy the luscious fruits too. Fruits that don’t have a significant influence on diabetic’s blood glucose level are good for diabetics. Such fruits are usually rich in fiber and are most likely to have a low glycemic index (GI). GI is basically a scale to measure that how much the food will affect the sugar in your blood. So, lower the glycemic index of fruit, the more it can be enjoyed by diabetics. Hence if diabetic patients consume fight with glycemic index less than 55 than they can satisfy their sweet tooth through the below mentioned luscious fruits:

·         Tart cherries

Tart cherries which are known for fighting and reducing inflammation have a very low glycemic index. If you happen to buy a canned cherries confirm that they donot contain added sugar as it is not good for diabetics.

·         Berries

Berries are another fruit that have a low glycemic index. They are rich in vitamins, fibers and antioxidants. Diabetic patient can choose between strawberries or berries. Latest research says that strawberries have more healthy impact on the plasma glucose of both types of diabetes. Diabetes has approximately 63 calories.

·         Peaches

Peaches are the fruits that are rich in vitamins, fibers and potassium. In order, to add further health benefits, put in ginger or cinnamon to the peaches. According to the research eating peaches reduces the risk of diabetes type 2 while the consumption of fruit juices increases the risk of diabetes.

·         Apples

Latest research proves that eating apple and many other fruits decrease the risk of diabetes. An apple which is average sized has 76 calories which means an apple between meals can keep the patient full and will prevent him from over eating. Always remember that apple should be consumed with skin as its skin contains a lot of nutrients.

·         Oranges

An orange full in vitamin C, folate and potassium is what you need everyday. Potassium, and folate balances blood sugar level. It can also be replaced by any citrus fruit.

·         Pears

Pears with skin are rich in vitamin K and nutrients should be included in a diabetic’s diet.

·         Apricots

An apricot has only 3 grams of carbs and 16 calories and are rich in vitamin A. Eat them fresh or as a part of salad.

·         Kiwi

Kiwi is a delicious fruit rich in vitamin C, fiber and potassium. Each kiwi has only 13 grams of carbs.

Guidelines:

Even the fruits with low glycemic level should be taken only in right proportions as recommended by your nutritionist.
