Yoga lovers stretch themselves for human rights

(NC) — On April 26, yoga lovers across Canada will be participating in yoga events to help raise money to protect and promote human rights. They'll be taking part in Yoga Day for Human Rights, an event in support of the human rights organization Amnesty International.

Yoga Day (yogaday.ca) grew out of a single Amnesty volunteer's passion for human rights and her desire to make a difference. A few years ago, Louise Mulvihill organized her first Yoga Day and successfully raised more than $4,600. “I wanted to do something to raise money for Amnesty International, and doing something that I already knew was the best way I could think of to make it happen.”

The yoga community in Louise's city was so supportive of her event that it made her want other yoga communities across Canada to get involved. Louise hopes that by participating in Yoga Day people get the joy of receiving yoga and the joy of giving back.

Since the first event organized by Louise, Yoga Day for Human Rights has grown quickly to include yoga studios from Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia, to St John, New Brunswick.
