Ottawa: Veg Festival returns with inspiring panelists



Are you seeking a fun activity this Sunday in Canada's capital? Veg Fest organizers seek to inspire further vital social awareness on healthy lifestyles through vegetarianism. Panelists are also scheduled to discuss topics which include animal rights.

The 4th annual Ottawa Veg Fest 2012 will be held on this Sunday, 29 April 2012 at the Glebe Community Centre from 10am-5pm. This Festival returns with a great line-up of speakers. Jo-Anne McArthur is scheduled to make a presentation at 11:30am-12:45pm titled “Animals and Photojournalism — Global Stories About Our Relationships With Animals.”

Festival organizers elaborate that “Jo-Anne McArthur has worked as a documentary photographer since 2000, with her love of travel, curiosity about people, animals and different cultures leading her to more than 40 countries on all seven continents.”

Ms. McArthur seeks to inspire us, as humans, to appreciate other animals as biological-spiritual beings who are interconnected with us, and with Mother Earth.

“McArthur is the force behind We Animals, an ambitious project which documents, through photography, animals in the human environment. The premise of the project is that humans are as much animal as the sentient beings we use for food, clothing, research, experimentation, work, entertainment, slavery and companionship,” states Veg Fest organizers.

Jack Norris, R.D. presents “Vegan Nutrition — What Does the Science Say?” at 1:00-2:15pm. Jack Norris is the President and co-founder of Vegan Outreach, an American grassroots animal advocacy group working to promote veganism through the widespread distribution of printed informational booklets. He is also a dietician.

James McWilliams, PhD presents “An Alternative to the Alternatives — Why Sustainable Animal Agriculture Is No Answer to Industrial Agriculture.” at 2:30-3:45pm. He the author of Just Food: Where Locavores Get It Wrong and How We Can Truly Eat Responsibly, and is an associate professor of history at Texas State University.
