Ottawa: Celebrate Kombucha at First Annual International BOOCHFEST

Ottawa, ON. – July 9, 2018 – BOOCHFEST is a can’t-miss International Festival that will take place in Lansdowne Park, Ottawa. The event will be held on Sunday July 22nd, from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.

The Festival will draw a wide variety of both renowned international brewers and smaller micro-producers from Canada, the USA, and regions as far as Iceland. Featured at the event will be top players such as GT’s, RISE, Brew Dr., Kombucha Iceland, Culture Kombucha, Artizen Kombucha and many others.

Kombucha has been featured in specialty festivals in the past, but this event is the first to focus solely on the wildly popular fermented tea. “It is a dream come true to have a festival dedicated to Kombucha. Over 20 years ago, when I started bottling my brew, it was hard enough to get people to understand what Kombucha was, let alone try it.”, states GT Dave, Founder of GT’s Living Foods.  “Today, it’s incredible to know that the appreciation for Kombucha has finally reached a degree that it can anchor an entire event. I could not be prouder!”, Dave continues.

Originating over 2,000 years ago in Asia, Kombucha is prepared by blending black tea and sugar with a Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Fission Yeast, also known as a SCOBY, which ferments the liquid into a delicious vitamin-packed beverage. Known for its extensive range of health benefits, including immune-boosting properties, digestive health and cancer-fighting abilities, Kombucha is quickly becoming the drink of choice, replacing standard soft drinks, fruit juices and bottled water.

“Kombucha’s growth will certainly continue for many years as more and more people discover it and as kombucha reaches more mainstream consumers.  Growth will also come as people discover more drinking occasions and it becomes increasingly part of our daily rituals. We’re just getting started.”, states Julian Giacomelli, President of Canada's Rise Kombucha.

Capitalizing on the growing trend toward health and wellness, Kombucha is the fastest growing beverage product with consistent annual growth in the natural and conventional beverage market with sales estimated to reach $1.8 billion by 2020, according to Forbes.

“Our enthusiasm for kombucha started when we purchased our first bottle one hot summer day. It was love at first sip!”, states BOOCHFEST co-founder Samira Drapeau. “We created this event to share and celebrate kombucha with the world and we hope that others will fall in love with it too.” adds Drew Williams, co-founder of BOOCHFEST.

BOOCHFEST is free to attend and will take place inside the Horticulture Building (Lansdowne Park) at 1525 Princess Patricia Way in Ottawa, Ontario K1S 5J. Rain or shine, the long list of family-friendly activities is sure to attract many.

A homemade Kombucha competition, Kombucha sampling and a family zone hosted by Whole Foods are just some of the interactive activities planned for the day. Guests will also enjoy delectable local food from Ottawa’s own Mad Radish at the giant communal picnic table. An award-winning SCOBY fashion installation will also be on display.

BOOCHFEST is the first international gathering of its kind and promises to be an exciting, educational and fun-filled day for everyone.
