Is the Ontario NDP a racist organization with a misleading progressive front? That may be the case. One visible minority candidate has submitted their application to become a candidate in May 2011. That candidate had a great CV of academic and professional credentials. However, after Ontario NDP headquarters discovered that candidate was a visible minority who wanted to run in what Ontario NDP bureaucrats deemed to be a “white riding”, that candidate’s application was ignored, as applications of other white candidates who were much less qualified were accepted.

Carleton-Mississippi Mills Riding Executive promised that Darlene Lawson, the Ontario NDP’s Provincial Secretary would call the rejected candidate weeks ago, but no call has been made to-date.

That Ontario NDP’s apparent racism is reminiscent of a posting on rabble.ca back in 2002:

I had a friend who was considering joining the NDP, but after some serious research told me she had hesitations due to the NDP's policies on Race.

Confused as I was, I wanted to find out more.

She said that although clearly well intentioned the NDP seemed to have a very WASP attitude about race. Meaning that instead of a side by side, everyone is involved attitude (that she sees in the Liberals), the NDP seems to have a "let's help them out" policy. She then approached other visible and non-visible minority friends and they seemed to concur with her opinion.

The impression being that the NDP is a bunch of white boys that are looking out to help out the little guy (the various race groups) instead of being a multi-racial party that is not delineating between the groups and is seeing everyone as an equal.

I didn't see it this way, but being of WASP background, perhaps I'm not seeing this clearly. This impression, true or not, is dangerous for a party. I'm curious to know if anyone else sees this the same way, or has heard of this as an issue. And second to that, what can we do to a) fix this problem if it's legitimate, or b) fix this perception ?

Yes, in latent reply to your posting, racism appears to be alive and well in the Ontario NDP. Ontario NDP’s apparent latent racism has was compared by that rejected candidate to George Orwell’s books entitled ‘Animal Farm’ and ‘Nineteen Eighty Four”.
