Online Dating: Top Eleven Etiquette Tips for Guys

When it comes to dating, no one puts in quite as much effort as the girls. Perhaps it is time for you gentleman out there to take a few tips from the professionals, and learn from the ladies in order to find the love of your life, or at the very least, your love for right now!

Think of it logically boys; the things that put you off about the girls you are looking at online is probably going to put those girls off too, but thankfully, these ten simple rules should point you in the right direction for a happy ever after…

Appearance is EVERYTHING! Your profile page is the equivalent of a first impression, so if you screw this up, you are not going to get a response from that well thought out message you sent. This is where our first tips begin:

1. Make sure that your profile picture is up to date. Nothing puts a girl off more than falling in love with a picture of a 25 year old stud, only to find that you are actually dating a 60 year old man in a string vest.

2. Keep your profile page short and sweet. Don’t ramble on mindlessly about your biggest achievements – by all means mention them, but showing off will just make you come across as arrogant. At the same time, don’t make it too short otherwise girls simply won’t be interested.

3. Be honest! No one likes a liar, and let’s face it guys; the truth is only going to come out in the end!

Moving on from the first impressions, we come to actually talking – the communication part of online dating that either makes or breaks a potential relationship.

4. Try and talk like you actually went to school. There is nothing attractive about: “Alrite bbe, sup witchu 2nite?” This sentence doesn’t make sense, and it also makes you look like a 12 year old school boy.

5. Don’t get your “sext” on too early. No respectful girl puts out on a first date, “sextual” or otherwise! Keep it clean until at least the second date!

6. Keep your language clean boys! You may swear like a trooper in “real life”, but there is no need to fill your messages with words that would put even the most foul-mouthed woman off!

7. Don’t make your messages sound like you are a desperate guy. Avoid long replies.

Once you have got the conversational bit out the way, and realized that you do actually like each to meet face to face, it’s time for the real fun to begin, and this is where it usually all goes wrong.

8. Meet in an open place. You should never try to lure your potential new partner into a place where you will be completely alone, or to a place that is too far from where she lives. At the very least, meet in the middle.

9. Make sure you take enough cash with you. Girls don’t always expect a guy to pay on the first date, but it makes sense to be prepared. Suggesting splitting the bill on this all important date just makes you look cheap; at least let her offer!

10. Pay attention to your appearance! Ripped jeans may look good on a night out with the boys, but on a first date – not so much! Get your hair done, put on freshly cleaned and ironed clothes, and generally look as if you give a damn about what you look like!

11. Finally and perhaps most importantly, just be yourself. Girls know when the guy they are dating is putting on an act; they are not stupid. Be you, be cool, and just have fun. If it all ends badly, at least it was an experience!
