Online dating: When should you delete your profile?

There is something to be said about monogamy, but for the most part, the hardest part of a monogamous relationship is actually learning when to have that great big chat – the exclusivity chat. At what point do you decide you are in a relationship – he wants to say something but that goes against his masculine side, she wants to talk about it but is scared that it will drive him away. It is even more difficult when you met on a dating website – at what point do you decide that just one date is enough, and scrap any other potential suitors that may come your way.

The thing about online dating websites is that it can be hard to tear yourself away from it, especially if you are lucky enough to have plenty of messages or dates out of it. Every guy that sends you a message telling you that you are hot will be a massive ego boost and the same works for guys as well. They may seem big and tough, but deep down; they want affirmation just as much as the girlies do! Every good message, every nice conversational starter, every escaped giggle; these are all things that it can be impossible to tear yourself away from, once you have started reaping the benefits.

That’s the thing about online dating in a nutshell – it can become incredibly addictive. Once you have met a couple of guys or girls, and found one that you really like, it can be hard to know when to draw the line. Should you come off the dating website and give it a go with this one, or should you continue on your quest in the hope for something bigger and better? At what point is enough actually enough? When you do you delete your profile?

The answer for most people is not to actually delete their profile, but just to make it hidden from those that are searching for dates; a service that Plenty of Fish offers its daters. This gives you the best of both worlds – you get to work on the human relationship you have right in front of you, while still having a finger in the pie of the dating world of the dating website that you are in.

Just the other day, Rebecca and Emma were having a conversation:

Rebecca: "I like this guy, but I don’t really know where it’s going. I thought about coming off of Match.com and just dating him, but I’m not sure if it’s too soon?"

Emma: "Have you and your guy had the "exclusive" chat yet? At least then neither of you is dating anyone else!"

This makes a lot of sense when you think about it. When and your partner decide to become "exclusive", as in not dating or sleeping with anyone else, that pretty much means that you are in a committed relationship. The fact of the matter is if you are still thinking about dating other people, there is a good chance that the current guy you are seeing is not the right guy for you. Or girl for that matter.
