UFO: Amateur Astronomer reports Montreal sighting

An amateur astronomer in Montreal reports sighting satellite-like UFO on 18 May, 2013 at 12:00 AM. This report has been obtained from a testimony included in the database of Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), published on 26 May, 2013.

The witness describes what he was doing at the time of the incident, and also describes what he saw.

“I was sitting on my balcony, staring at the night sky as I am an amateur astronomer. At this point, I noticed a star light object (slightly bigger then a star moving in the night sky along a directed path.”

He talks about his initial reaction to the object.

“It this point in time I was convinced that the object was a satellite.”

The witness describes the relative size of the object.

“The strange part was that the object got bigger as it appeared that the object was getting closer. The object then got fainter.”

The witness describes its trajectory.

“The object was moving along a definite trajectory, the object got closer, then fainter as if the object was moving towards me then away from me.”

The witness describes the elevation and distance of the object.

“As there are planes in the sky at night, the object was from 100,000 feet to about 30,000 feet (when it got closer) (using planes as a reference to judge the distance).”

He talks about the duration of the incident.

“The whole duration of the event lasted about 15 seconds.”

He tells us why he could not make out any structure.

“As it was very far away and it was at night I could not make out any structure.”

The witness finally tells us how he realized that the object might have not been a satellite.

“When I was observing the event I was convinced it was a satellite, but the movement of the object towards me and away from me, made the event strange.”

The above quotes were edited for clarity.

MUFON requests the readers to keep in mind that many reports of UFO sightings can be explained scientifically as natural phenomenon.
