UFO Alert issued in U.S.: Six states report 289 January cases








The National UFO ALERT Rating System has been updated for February 2014, with California, Texas, Florida, Arizona, Oregon and Washington moving to a UFO Alert 3 as the highest reporting states with 25 or more cases during the month of January 2014, filed with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

California was the leading high-reporting state in January with 102 cases, up from 68 December cases, 56 November cases, 77 October cases, 70 September cases, 97 August cases, 91 July cases, 72 June cases, 67 May cases, 47 April cases, 59 March cases, 53 February cases and 63 January cases.

Those states in a UFO Alert 4 category with 13 or more reports include: New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Georgia, North Carolina, Colorado, Illinois, South Carolina, Virginia and New Jersey.

All other states move to a UFO Alert 5 category with lower numbers of UFO activity. The Watch States - with 10 or more cases - are Ohio, Oklahoma and Massachusetts.

MUFON released January statistics February 1, where the total number of reported UFO sightings is listed by state. The UFO Examiner uses these statistics to rate states. The entire country was moved back to the lowest alert level - UFO Alert 5.

California takes the lead with 102 cases; Texas, 51; Florida, 49; Arizona, 32; Oregon, 28; and Washington, 27..

Those states with 13 or more reports, the next reporting tier level, are a UFO Alert 4 status: Michigan, 23; Pennsylvania, 20; Missouri, 19; Georgia, 18; North Carolina, 17; Colorado, 16; Illinois, 15; South Carolina, 15; Virginia, 13; and New Jersey, 13.

Our Watch States this month are - with 10 reports or more: Ohio, 12; Oklahoma, 10; and Massachusetts, 10.

The sphere remains the most-reported UFO shape with 240 cases, up from 141 December cases, November cases, 195 October reports, 211 September reports; 282 August reports, 269 July reports, 240 June reports, 187 May reports, 144 April reports, 124 March reports; 124 February reports; and 172 January reports. Other shape reports include: Circle, 132; Star-like, 128; Fireball, 98; Other, 89; Triangle, 87; Unknown, 86; Disc, 83; Oval, 69; Flash, 35; Cylinder, 26; Boomerang, 25; Cigar, 24; Diamond, 23; Egg, 13; Teardrop, 10; Chevron, 9; Bullet/Missile, 8; Blimp, 7; Cone, 6; Saturn-like, 6; and Cross, 5; .

The object's distance from the witness includes: Less than 100 feet, 94 cases; 101 to 500 feet, 99 cases; 501 feet to one mile, 188 cases; over one mile, 183 cases; unknown, 234; and no value stated, 28.

In addition, there were "26 landings, hovering, or takeoffs reported and 0 entity observed."

The most interesting UFO reports do not necessarily come from high reporting states - but those states with higher numbers do account for some of the most interesting evidence to study. While UFO sightings seem to pop up randomly around the country, this list is meant to offer a small insight into where Americans are filing reports.
