World's Largest UFO Conference Returns to the Phoenix Area

(OpenMinds.tv) -- The International UFO Congress is the Guinness World Record holding largest UFO conference and it is held right here in the Phoenix area. The conference will be held from February 16 to 21, 2016 and it features lectures from scientists, professors, journalists, authors, researchers, TV personalities, and even a politician; all with an interest in the topics of UFOs or aliens.

"There is a lot for anyone with an interest in UFOs to do at the conference," says conference organizer Alejandro Rojas. "You can listen to lectures from researchers about the real X-Files, watch films about UFOs and aliens that are part of our film festival, or visit the bustling vendor room to talk to researchers and buy UFO stuff. The great thing is that most of this is free and open to the public."

Among the many lectures being presented this year, two of the most unique are from a former congressman and a Hollywood special effects legend. The congressman is Merrill Cook who served in the U.S. House of Representatives representing the 2nd district of Utah. In 2013, Cook participated in a mock-congressional hearing regarding UFOs. He, and other former Congress-people, heard testimony from dozens of witnesses. Although skeptical at first, Cook says he was impressed with the testimony presented and it has made him rethink the UFO phenomenon and government secrecy.

The special effects guru is none other than Douglas Trumbull, the man responsible for the special effects of Sci-Fi classics such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and Blade Runner. He also directed the movies Silent Running and Brainstorm.

Trumbull is also fascinated with the topic of UFOs. He has labeled his UFO hunting efforts the UFOTOG project (a mashing of the words UFO and photography). UFOTOG includes a Hummer decked out with photographic equipment and a short film about a man searching for UFOs. He has also partnered with UFO experts to research and develop a self-contained modular device that can scan the skies for unidentified objects and capture scientific data using a variety of instruments.

"Another exciting event at the UFO Congress this year is the premiere of a feature film based on an amazing mass UFO sighting that took place in the Phoenix area in 1997, often referred to as the Phoenix Lights," says Rojas.

The movie is called Phoenix Incident, and is set in the Phoenix area. The film will be shown on Friday, February 19 at 5:30 pm. The screening is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and will be on a first come, first served basis.

This is the 25th anniversary of the International UFO Congress, an event that draws attendees from all over the world. Each year garners a lot of attention from the media and entertainment industry, and this year is ramping up to be another out of this world event.

The International UFO Congress is presented by OpenMinds.tv, an Arizona based organization dedicated to the dissemination of information related to UFOs and the search for extraterrestrial life. The conference was established in 1991 and is held annually. It is the largest of its kind in the world. It features presentations given by scientists, academics, authors, researchers, experts, and those who have experienced paranormal or anomalous phenomena from all over the world. It also provides a forum to discuss experiences and findings. The event has over 20 Speakers, a Film Festival, and scores of vendors. Topics generally covered are UFO sightings, alien abduction, UFO crashes, crop circles, paranormal experiences, governmental UFO secrecy and much more.
