Just a few days ago, on 18 January, an extraordinary event would shock the city of George Town, in the north-western Malaysian state of Penang.

According to a video published on Facebook by a user called Wang Soon You, an alleged unidentified flying object can be seen hovering above the South Asian city, near the famous KOMTAR Tower.

On the same date, local online newspaper The Star titled: “Video of 'UFOs' over Komtar goes viral”.

“A video purportedly showing UFOs floating near Komtar in George Town, Penang has gone viral on social media. The video, which was posted on Facebook by Wang Soon You, showed two white objects flying side by side above Komtar”, the Malaysian news site stated.

The news source also quoted Mr Wang, who posted on his Facebook account: “A UFO appeared over Penang skies. Would you believe me?”

Immediately after being published, the video went viral. Some internauts reacted with scepticism, like Facebook user Sharlynn Charlsharlynn Lim, who expressed that the object looked like a drone. However, Lawrence Ooi, another Facebook user, wondered: “Can a drone be so big? I am looking at the same thing too”.

Meanwhile, UFO researcher and writer Scott C. Waring, of UFO Sightings Daily, opined that this sighting is “proof that UFOs are no strangers to Malaysia”.

“This week in Asia there was a UFO sighting in downtown Penang, which as you can see, caused a crowd to gather as two or more UFOs flew near a contrail in the sky”, Mr Waring wrote in his blog.

“In the video, two large white disks are seen moving to the right of the screen”, he affirmed. “The crowd is so in awe, most forgot they had cellphones, but you do notice them pointing at the sky”, the American UFO hunter continued.

However, he said, “luckily for us, one person managed to get a shot of them”.
